My sister has a crush on her much older school teacher. is it normal?

My sister is fourteen years old and very conservative. She's never admitted to liking any boy in her entire life. However, it's becoming increasingly obvious that she has a MAJOR crush on her 40-something English teacher. I've never heard of a 14-year-old having a crush on someone that old, except in history books. I'm really concerned about her. I think she really, actually loves him, like SINCERELY. And I must admit, I see her point. He is an incredibly (as in, INCREDIBLY) kind man, and really funny and everything, and I guess he kind of does have a really nice smile. :) But I'm still worried - he's probably married with kids, for God's sake! And my sister is being so obvious, it's painful. I really don't want her to go through something humiliating, because that's where she's headed. Please - is it normal for a fourteen-year-old girl to have a crush on their 40-something-year-old teacher?

It is a common occurrence for young men and women to be attracted to a teacher. The sense of authority, the safety of a leader and mentoring figure is quite appealing to the insecure, and the topic of attraction is one of the most sensitive topics for an adolescent.

totally 100% normal. Have you ever heard the phrase "schoolgirl crush"? The only time it's a problem is when the teacher uses it to his/her advantage and starts a relationship.

It's normal. If he's not a child molester, he'll probably enjoy the attention but laugh it off. At most, he may be attracted to her but won't act on his feelings, and just be flattered. Just as long as he aint molesting her, don't worry about it

This is ridiculous it is dangerous for a girl that age to have feelings for a teacher. Even if he is the nicest of teachers she may end up in a comprimising situation and that is not what you want. You may want to talk to the teacher yourself if you feel comfortable or talk to your parents and try and help her get over this!

Well, nobody can control who they have feelings for. But she should at least keep it to herself, and not allow her feelings for this man to grow.

It's perfectly normal, I have a 32 year old teacher that I have a crush on...What it really comes down to isn't that she's looking for a bou her age, she's looking for a man who would be like a father to her. Does she have a dad or is hers like mine: mean all the time
