No motivation until i'm failing, iin?

I found out my GPA was so low I was about to get kicked out of college, so I figured "well, better start actually applying myself" and by the next semester I made the deans list.

I had that same motivation the beginning of this semester to try to get my cumulative GPA back up, and I got 95s and above on my exams for each class. Due to that, I'd lost my motivation. I've been getting Cs and Ds on my quizzes/exams, not doing HW etc. so now I'm motivated again to make a comeback from those bad grades.

is it normal I have to be near failing in order to feel like putting in the effort?

I don't do anything until I feel hellfire lighting my ass but when I do I do amazing things.

This is the only thing that got me through high school. I'd wait three weeks to do an assignment the day before it's due and get at least a B on it because the pressure made me work my ass off.

Looks like threat of failing is your fire. Just excel in school and visit the homeless once in a while. You know, throw rocks at them, make fun of the voices in their head, pretend to steal their stuff then run away, and you will be good to pass!

I was the same way, but now I realize I was an idiot and wasted a lot of time and money.

Spending money on classes isn't enough motivation? I just don't understand why people try going to college if they're not willing to their best effort in.

I was sort of same way in elementary school. I was failing because I slacked off with my homework, didn't pay attention in class, and didn't hand projects in. I always turned it around toward the second half of the year and broke out even enough to not be held back a grade. Once I got to middle school, I was a lot less lazy.
