Normal to feel great at 48?

I've really started feeling great recently. But I'm 48 years old now. I have spent over the past month excersising several times a week and eating healthier, more fruits and vegetables (but with plenty of protien). And I have lost almost 10 pounds since I started doing this. I realize that doing all of that can help you feel better. But me starting to really feel good, better than I have in several years, at age 48? I'm not on any medications or drugs, I've had this happier energy, able to relax well, and just feel more positive about life, except during these occasions moments when questioning it. Maybe my only issue is questioning it like this, but I don't know, I am 48, be 50 in a couple of years

I’ve heard of people getting into exercise and improving their diet and saying they feel “better than I did at [insert younger age]” many times. You’re taking care of yourself and it’s paying off.

    • That's true, it is. And I have heard people say even at 60 that their change in lifestyle has made them feel better than they had in decades. I guess that I've been too skeptical in the past, and I thought that some of that talk about feeling much better than they have in years was just commercial/infomercial bs because that's where I heard alot people say all of that. But I'm realizing now that I don't have to be skeptical, and that there have also been alot of people in real life, some older than me, who have really felt better after improving their lifestyle habits. And I am pleased that I'm really feeling better through changing mine.

I just need to shake these occasional moments where I start to think "I shouldn't be feeling so good at my age". I guess alot of that thinking has come from many people saying how rotten it is getting older, midlife crisises, and such. But the truth is that it really doesn't have to be that way. I've found a way to feel better, and many others have too. I just need to shake those occasional thoughts

Im only 32 but I feel the exact same physically as I did at 16. Only difference is I feel when I lifted weights at 16-20 I gained muscle way faster. But as far as cardio workouts its the same. Sex drive is good as ever. I feel amazing at 32 I didnt expect to feel this good

    • I haven't been doing strength training, I've been riding my excersise bike for 30 minutes 3 times a week, that's not even a full week's schedule, but it seems that it's sure helped, along with my diet. And I've lost 9 pounds. I've been counting carbs, calories, and sodium, I've made sure that I have a full source of protien with each of my 3 meals a day, and I've made most of my daily carbs fruit, vegetables, or something high fiber. I've just had one serving of an actual dessert kind of thing per day, but made sure it's no more than 30g carbs. The rest of my daily 150g-180g of carbs has been healthy carbs.

I know at age 32, doing all of that (plus weights as you're doing) would make you really feel better. I just didn't expect it would make me feel this good at 48

Yeah man getting your carbs through vegetables is the way to go for losing weight. I also cut back on pasta and bread if I am losing weight. I also try to be careful not to eat too much fruit because its high in fructose, basically sugar. I also find it helpful to skip breakfast and lunch a few days a week and only eat after work. This is intermittent fasting and causes you to drop weight fast. Just gotta make sure you are getting the proper daily vitamins and protein through foods when u do break the fast.

        • I haven't really done that with the fasting thing. Yeah, fruit does have fructose, but it's also full of antioxidants and fiber, so I've seen it as a better choice than candy or white carbs (white bread, white pasta, etc.) which are much lower in fiber and vitamins, which I'm really limiting. And I've been making my daily limit of overall carbs 180g, so that's all what I feel has been working for me anyways. But I guess there are even better ways to do it.

I've lost some weight, but some of it probably has been water retention since I've also limited my sodium and drink more water. And it seems like it's actually closer to 7 lbs I've lost rather than 9 because I need to remember that your weight can fluctuate 3 to 4 lbs every day due to how much water is in your system and how full/empty your digestive system is at the moment so there's that to remember as well as water retention weight and fat weight. My overall weight is fluctuating between about 7 to 10 lbs less now from when I started. My muscle weight is probably no different from when I started because I've just been doing aerobic excersise so far, but my heart and lungs have gotten fitter. I'm still definitely feeling better than when I started so I'm going to keep at it
