Normal to love 1930s music?

I'm in my 40s and I love watching 1930s movies and I love listening to 1930s music (the kind of music that you often hear in 1930s movies), but many other people I know do not share my enthusiasm for it, and I've had people telling me to "turn that horrible fucking shit off!!" when they've overheard me listen to it. Is it really not a common taste in music anymore? Who of you on here like 1930s music, I'm just curious on if it's just the people I'm around (they're from the ages 30s to 60s), or if it's most people in general. Check yes or no on whether you enjoy listening to 1930s music.

I love it to pieces! LOVE the Gershwins and Cole Porter, Ella and Billie, swing and big bands! Recently I've been listening to modernized versions of current swing artists than more traditional such as Benny Goodman.

      I kid. Half my people don't love it as much as I do - I'd say it actually is 50/50. But I do look down on the ones who don't at all.

        I have known people who love 1930s music, but they're mostly over 70 years old. Where I am in Kansas, many people are kind of closed minded and have no interest in any music that happened before they were born.

        Frankly, I have no idea why someone would "hate it". There is music I'm not too fond of but I can appreciate it for what it stands for and can even see why others see beauty in it, but it either just doesn't move me or speak to me. Maybe your friends in Kansas just never had the interest in exploring music as a whole and getting to know everything there is - which to an extent was possible 20 years ago and hasn't been anymore because of the current profusion of artists and information we have that makes it nearly impossible to do the same, there simply isn't enough time to consume that much content.
        
        I have a feeling it will become less and less common for this generation and future ones. It's sad, really. I feel lucky I was born when I was and got to know and love this kind of music.

  Some popular 1930s bands were Paul Whiteman, Glenn Miller, and Tommy Dorsey. You can look up YouTube videos that play their music. Also, you can check out "A decade of 1930s music for your listening pleasure @Pax31", there's an assortment of different 1930s bands playing there

    I didn't really care for Paul Whiteman too much. At least not the first couple of songs I heard anyway. Not that it was bad or anything, but just not my kind of vibe.

    Glenn Miller, I liked the song that played around 3:30. That's pretty good music right there.
    
    I don't really care much for the sad, droning type of sound of some songs. Others remind me of something that would accompany a black and white movie. I do enjoy the prevalence of wind instruments, I wish those were still commonly used in bands. Chicago comes to mind as a good example. I'll have to check out Tommy Dorsey later.
    
    Do you have any favorite songs of any of these bands, or do you just like listening to a general variety of this type/style/era of music?

      She was in 42nd street, Dames, Gold diggers 33, Footlight parade, Flirtation walk, and Coleen. All 1930s films. You can find film clips with Ruby in them on YouTube. Just type in Ruby Keeler and the name of the above mentioned film and you'll find several YouTube clips.

  The music you often hear in 1930s films, bands like Glen Miller, Tommy Dorsey, Paul Whiteman, music that Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers danced to, or Judy Garland sung. But if you're not familiar with any of these old time musicians, singers, and old films, then I totally understand your question.
