Not allowed to say "merry christmas" anymore

I didn't hear a single "Merry Christmas" this year. It was all "Happy Holidays." I have now been trained, through repetition, to understand that saying "Merry Christmas" is insensitive, offensive, and potentially racist.

    • Makes me question reality when suddenly everyone's doing something and I'm not. Guess I should expect it living amongst thousands of brainwashed people.

Saying Merry Christmas does NOT sound racist, insensitive nor offensive.

I have always said 'Merry Christmas' and always will. Respecting other beliefs is one thing, submerging your own culture and values just to satisfy the woke mob is a bird of an entirely different plumage.

It's "Merry Christmas" to me, although a company I used to work for, that was USA based, told us all we couldn't say Merry Christmas at work. If we said any greeting, it had to be "Happy Holidays", this was to customers and coworkers alike.

I didn't do well with that directive, it's Christ's birthday that I'm celebrating and I say Merry Christmas. If you celebrate Hanukkah and wish me Happy Hanukkah I'll smile say thank you and probably respond with Merry Christmas. If you tell me "baa hum bug" or nothing that's fine I may or may not still wish you a Merry Christmas. Just depends on the situation.

The company was too afraid someone may be offended and they would make a negitive comment. Yet they did let people decorate their work areas and wear Christmas attire. How stupid!

I heard Merry Christmas a few times at stores I went to in the U.S. No one said happy holidays to me. Don't think it's a big deal as much as some people think.

When someone says "Happy Holidays" to me I ask them what holiday are they referring to. When they say Christmas, I say then say Merry Christmas. If they then say Merry Christmas, I return the greeting to them. Otherwise I don't acknowledge their misguided effort.

At my job I almost got fired for saying Merry Christmas. My boss pulled me aside and told me to say happy holidays instead because merry christmas was disrespectful to those who don't celebrate so unfortunately OP is right.

I always say Merry Christmas, and I have no desire to change. No one should stop saying Merry Christmas if that's what they prefer to say.

We've a lot of muslims here and they'd look like we were pointin guns at them the moment we say "Merry Christmas". I don't care tbh. It's a christian country they chose to live in and people already hate the idea of it forced becomin more and more muslimic so they don't give a bloody damn about sayin it. These who immigrate deserve more respect tho.

Suffer through it for the economy, bud. It's all about the $$$. Your corporate overlords want you to be inoffensive in the holiday season so that the money keeps rolling in to their pockets.

I've heard both "Merry Christmas" and "Happy Holidays" this year. Honestly, neither one bothers me, as both are meant to wish joy on people (even if "Merry Christmas" is said to someone who doesn't celebrate it, it's not like that person is saying "go to hell", lol; I don't celebrate Hanukkah, but if someone told me "Happy Hanukkah", I would simply say "thank you, you too" and appreciate the kind greeting), and it isn't as if "Happy Holidays" excludes Christmas. I think both sides get too bent out of shape over this, as I don't think either greeting should be considered offensive.

Who’s putting this phony trip on you.? We always say Merry Christmas unless we’re not sure if the person celebrates and then we say Happy Holidays. If we know the person is Jewish we say Happy Hannukah.
