Obsessed over dog?

I have a miniature schnauzer and she is like my baby. I always kiss her nose but people think that's gross. I take her to the salon to get a haircut since its kind of long, and especially sucks during the summer (scorching TX weather) but my friend says I spoil her too much. Sometimes when I take a shower she waits outside the door for me and when I leave the house she always cries, and it makes me feel so guilty! Usually on Sunday I'll make her eggs (gives shinny coat) but people say it's rediculous. But it's not like I give her sparkling water! Is it normal to care for your pet like this? Am I just simply being a good pet owner...?

I hope by salon you meant dog groomers. I didn't read anything about you taking her to the vet for regular checkups or about you taking her to parks for exercise, if you are doing these things then I'd say you are taking good care of her. She is not a little person, she is of another species and has to be taken care of differently otherwise you'll be hurting more than helping.

Ask your vet if feeding her eggs is okay, that could be unhealthy for her or make her put on unnecessary weight. Don't feed her other human foods, or, god forbid, use hairsprays or human body washes or stuff like that on her.

She takes anti-parasite pills monthy so everytime she needs a new year-round dose, she HAS to get a check up. I also take her to the park 2-3 times a week or to a relative's house so she could interact with their dogs, instead of being home all day. Oops, I almost forgot, I meant to the "dog groomer" lol plus she IS spayed

Then it sounds like you take great care of your dog sans feeding her people food. You'd make a good mother.

Why wouldn't you do nice things for something you love? That is a normal thing.

I agree with you apart from the home-cooked food part. Home-cooked food normally isn't as good for pets health as dry food or tinned food, because store-bought food is made from formulas created specifically as a balenced diet. By feeding your dog differently you are probably giving it an unbalenced diet.

A lot of love is a good thing, though. I'm just being a bit picky about it.

I think I disagree with you on this. I heard an item on tv about dog food being only 4% meat, the rest being veg, oats, etc just fillers but a dog is a carnivore. So when I checked out a tin of dog food of 400g my dog was getting 16 grams of meat.

I now go to the local butcher who sells bags of 'real' meat for my dog.

Tinned food is almost all rubbish, you know.

My dog gets dog meat loaf plus dry food, but I wouldn't give her tinned food except in an absolute food emergency.

What's the issue about eggs? Dogs eat them in their natural state, after all and I can't see how they'd harm a dog.

  • I have a pit bull / lab mix that I rescued and I spoil him. I dont cook particular meals for him or take him to a salon, (he doesnt need haircuts) but I do spoil him by giving him pieces of meat that I cut off whatever I cooked/grilled for myself.

I enjoy doing it, and he enjoys eating it for sure.

I don't see anything wrong with what you do.

    You give her affection.

You make sure her fur is well kept and healthy.

This isn't weird, This is how people SHOULD treat their pets.

as for water, I know many people who give their dogs filtered water. nothing wrong in that either since it's healthier. i don't mean bottled water mind you but just the same water that runs through the filter-pitcher.

And to be honest... what you are doing for your dog will also save you money in vet bills later. Sometimes a little care and consideration early will save you trouble down the road.

If the dog know how to behave it can never be to spoiled...

Ha! I also have a schnauzer. I cut her hair myself though. And, eggs are her favorite. I eat eggs almost daily and I always share a bit with her; it's actually one of the reasons why I eat eggs so often. But I give her tap water (it's clean here).

When you leave the house, don't make a big deal about it, don't even say good-bye (I know this sounds kind of harsh, but it's all good). If you stop making a big deal about it, eventually she will too.

I'm glad that you like your dog so much. There are so many stories about people hating them, it's a real bummer. Your dog is lucky to have you as a friend. :)

You sound just like my mom. Our shihtzu poodle mix cries every time she leaves the house, and she tells her "I'll be back" over and over. She loves us all, but she's especially attatched to my mom, probably because she spoils her the most.
