i may feed him a lot, but even I knowleftovers make a cat terribly sick. (unless it's fish)
and as for gunmetal, your comment is now my favorite comment on this post :) lmfao!
Vet tech here: the normal cat doesn't really need more than 1/4cup of dry food plus a small amount of wet (while at a normal weight). Any time a cat is over 13 pounds, it is considered pre diabetic and you risk your cat needing insulin when he becomes diabetic. Insulin runs about 130 bucks a month. If your cat was an obese child, would you continue to keep feeding him unnecessarily? No. Not putting it gently: you are killing your cat. You not only risk diabetes, but back and hip problems, thyroid disease, heart issues, etc. you should speak with your vet about a weight loss plan. You do no want your cat to lose weight too fast, which can cause additional health problems. 1/2-1 pound of loss a month is generally okay. More advice: give meals at times rather than free feeding. Measure food and give it twice daily. A cat allowed to eat as much as he wants all day is the biggest cause of obesity.
I think the best thing to do is to consult your vet and they will tell you how much to feed your cat and also what to feed it. Even if your cat "wants" more food, it probably doesn't need it. My cat is a little piggy and would eat all day if I let her. That is why domestic cats need owners, to control there diet and take care of their health. Good luck! =(^._.^)=
i guess your right. we have had him for eight years now, and his activity has been able to reduce this fat, but getting older i've noticed he gets more tired now. he's ALWAYS begging for food though, i never give him more than that...
Don't overfeed your cat. If you love it, you won't let it die like that. Try to ease your cat off the food slowly. If it meows incessantly, teach it who's boss! Don't give in
My cat eats that much. She's 18 now with a hyperactive thyroid. Gotta give her pills 3 times a day. She is boney. I feed her whenever she wants. She doesn't have any more teeth so I can't give her kibble. Now, my 8 year old fatty kitty is vertically challenged. As my vet calls it. Won't stand up unless it's time to eat or run from strangers. I don't overfeed him. He's just lazy.
In your case i would slow down on the food. That's too much normally.
WAY too much food. Bring your cat to the vet soon, get him weighed (and tell the vet how much you're feeding the cat) and have the vet tell you how much he should be getting. Being over weight isn't just bad for humans you know.
In my opinion, that's a lot of food for one cat. I had a cat who died last year and have two kittens now, so I know how much to feed.
I think one can of wet cat food per day should be enough, otherwise you'll have an obese cat on your hands which had many consequences.
