Why are people so fucking stupid in this day and age?
Think about it. There's loads of consumerism, constant ads for products and services, government and political propaganda, the leaders of the world lie, most things you see on a screen, radio, music, posters, et al, are analyzed on a psychological level on how the general public will perceive it, react to it, they look at subtle ways to present information to make you agree just by getting you to mentally act out a baby clapping their hands in a puddle of some dirty liquid
In more ways than you or me can perceive this happens and in most cases before/during we've reached an understand on how these things are possible
Take America for example, I live here. Our economy as a country, which means this is also how we are a first world country, is based around people buying things, giving the government taxes, giving the citizens a reason to form business
Now not everyone is gonna be savvy enough to operate a business successfully. We can all think about how people are able to start and maintain them. So what's left for a certain majority? Well, that car factory needs employees to help operate it
People always complain about how the school system is so flawed. Think about it, not *everyone* can be a doctor, lawyer, dentist, psychologist, professional athlete, genius. This country *needs* people to flip burgers, work an assembly line, mop the floors.
I can actually kinda agree with this on some levels, because it *is* allowing people to choose their own paths. You know, we could be wondering what to do if we get bitten by a cobra in our sleep, or we could be wondering how to put food on the table. Food on the table seems like a better worry to me. I mean it's not just life, almost everywhere in the universe you can see the more applicable things out performing/maneuvering things less "gifted" than them
Black holes can suck up stars and planets, ant eaters eat ants, Nike and Adidas make better shoes than WalMart, George RR Martin spent twenty years writing books that may end up being filmed over the next twenty years, a couple of homeless guys started Bojangles selling rice and beans
And yes sometimes people fail, like the stupid people you mention in your post, but it's the idea behind the story about the frog and the grasshopper I believe. The frog does nothing but sunbathe by the water and the grasshopper builds a good home and stores food. They're both right to pursue their own desires. Who are we to judge either one? But we can accept that the grasshopper will be ready for winter and the frog is probably a falcon's lunch. And we just take this idea here, which is also very much in line with karma, and apply it to people
You can do nothing for someone who does stupid things and you would be okay, up to the point of danger or self harm anyway. Some people may ridicule that person. It's kind of a dick move, but it may help them understand their flaws, or it could spiral that person out of control. You kinda have to know what you're doing to make it work right. And some people may educate that person. You don't have to, it may not work out for you, but expending your energy for the betterment of your community *is* an honorable thing. Again though, you have to know what you're doing or you might come across as arrogant or something.
And that's what all these ads and propaganda do. They try to program people. Even just like having TVs or phones. Two popular ways to be fed information. Just about everyone you know has both, right? They're really cool to own, right? They've also been made really *useful* to own too, right? I really doubt at least up until the point they started mass producing smart phones that *no one* saw the potential for these devices.
You wanna know a big reason why people are stupid? Because it benefits the country to have stupid people
With as public as people are online you can always find an abundance of idiots. Vast majority are going with the flow and jumping off bridges with their friends.
All of my family members born in the 30's through 50's all said that people were always this stupid, they were just lucky enough to be born in a time when everyone didn't have a video camera in their pocket so there's not as much proof of it.
I think social media has a lot to do with it. Everyone has an opinion now and if that opinion gets a lot of likes on twitter by other idiots that opinion seems more valid. Idiots get to network now. 30 years ago if you were an idiot it was harder to get your opinions out there. You had to go on TV or the radio and they didnt let idiots on TV as much. Now they invite idiots on TV more because the idiots got 2 million likes on twitter (by other idiots).
Because they are trained to be stupid.
The entire purpose of modern American education (and in many other countries) is to train people to not think and to become employees... Get a "good education" and get a "good job"... except the kind of good jobs that existed in the 1950's and 1960's where one person could support a family and you had a job and a retirement for life... no longer exist. Now most so called "good jobs" will not pay your bills and you can expect to change careers at least 4 times in your life (with several jobs in each career).
The education system does not exist to teach people to think independently and to ask what is best for themselves personally and society in general.
Perhaps people are not more stupid it's just with social media their stupidity is more available to be seen
