Practice 'coming out' in a violent video game

So I was playing a mmofps video game and some dude I was playing with for the past hour suddenly says "I have something to tell you guys..." followed by a long pause, then, "I'm gay." It was awkward because he wasn't joking and everyone stopped talking after that and just played silently. I feel that it was inappropriate to do this online with strangers because no one cares and it was way too personal.

    Well, if the group he said that to had gotten to know eachother decently well, it would be fine, but saying that to strangers? Nah.
