Anyone have a passion to pray to God? I love to pray to God about guys I might be interested in. I pray God will bless them like people he has blessed in the bible. I really need to pray for myself, but that's not my passion. I like to pray for other people to be blessed. In continue it makes me happy that they are happy.
I think it's a pointless endeavor myself but I'm sure enough people do it in the world that it is technically a normal activity.
Prayer doesn't have any effect aside from the placebo effect, which you can get from almost anything, like say friendly support or a good outlook. People have been known to take sugar pills to achieve the same kind of apparent benefit that placebos induce. There's no inherent benefits from it and if you replace stuff that actually does good with prayer it can be incredibly harmful. For example replacing seat-belts, necessary medication, even food with prayer will result in possible harm due to obvious neglect for wellbeing.
I won't say don't pray because that's not up to me what you do but it's not like we do rain dances anymore, do we? It's pretty much the same thing. Modern day rain dances.
"Prayer doesn't have any effect aside from the placebo effect". Probably true. But what if a group of religious people prayed for an Atheist, and beat the null hypothesis over a statistically significant number of trials?
Your assertion is a testable hypothesis. I hope you realize that.
If that happens I'll change my view and personally edit my post. I don't see that happening any time soon though.
My assertion is a comment and mostly made up of my opinion and a few assumptions based on what I know. I'm not a scientist out to quest for the possible effects of prayer. Personally I think it's a waste of time. I don't pray. You want to pray you can pray but I highly suggest you actually DO something to help the situation whatever the situation is as well.
Would you think better of someone if you found out they stood by while someone you cared for suffered injuries from a car crash? If they only stood there to pray about it or would you prefer they call 911, went to be by their side and made sure they where ok praying only after that person was safe in an ambulance.
Regardless of the situation there is always a better action to be made than prayer. That's my point here. Hell even if by some strange twist of nature prayer effected anything slightly my thoughts here wouldn't change. Save the prayer till after what's needed to be done is done.
I like praying to God. I always feel a bit at peace after praying, even for the most simple things...

you do it because it feels good and that's ok, has long has you understand that it does nothing sadly.
And before you say that it does work think how jesus said others would come after him that would do bigger miracles then him and we don't see breakdance on top of the watter (would pay to see) or production of wine being stopped because people are making their own godly batch at home and no one calls a man of god wen it's stormy weather. and that's just the miracles he did, nothing bigger, and even if you say about conversion show me a man of true secular power and money that upon conversion gives everything he has.
So i can only conclude that while religion has a soothing effect it does not work
I pray a lot, not obviously though like some of my family members who bow their heads/close their eyes, hold hands and speak audibly in restaurants. Pretty embarrassing.
I always pray that I won't have a nervous breakdown at work or school. So far so good.
How do you know you're praying to the correct god? If you're praying to the wrong god, then you're just talking to yourself.

No surprise, because normally when God wants to kill innocent children in the Bible, God prefers to do it himself. Like with Job's children I mentioned above, or all the first born children of Egypt. Such a loving God.
By the way, why would an all knowing all seeing God need to test anything? Couldn't God see Abraham's faith in his heart? Couldn't he see the future and know Abraham would willing go through with it? Why would any all knowing all seeing being need to test anything?
I find the Job story hard to understand too. God killed his family and animals. Then after Job passed the tests God gave him another family and more animals than before. But what about the original family he had?
I am not sure why you are even asking me this. I really hope you aren't trying to compare me, a mear mortal to a God that is suppose to be all knowing and seeing, and suggesting that my inability to tell you Gods plan for you as excusing God's inability to know what was in Abraham's heart or knownhis actions. Saying I don't know something so it is OK for God to not know something else would be really ridiculous.
But to try and answer your question, seeing as how God is a fictional character in a book, I would suspect his plan for you is the same as Harry Potter's and Bugs Bunny's plans for you, non-existint.
The bible is such a complete load of bullshit designed to be used by authoritarian figures who use it to incite guilt, confusion, and fear in order to rule over people. People who are tasked with the burden of following the teachings of the bible have to turn off their brains and go along with whatever interpretation suits the authoritarian figure's set plan because there are so many contradictions.
God certainly does place is blessings on many people in the Bible. In that spirit, I pray that God blesses you like he blessed Job.
I heard somewhere Job is the oldest book in the bible, I love it how they were eating together in the beginning of the story, he kept being faithful to God and God bless him with better than he first had, made his daughters Beautiful.
I don't know where you heard it is the oldest book in the bible, but it is not the oldest story, and there isn't really any evidence to support it being written before any others.
Yes, in the story God blesses Job with beautiful children. Then God kills them all, and does many other horrible things to Job just to prove to Satan that Job wos be faithful no matter what.
Job was a good honest man who loved God. God rewarded him by killing his family and taking away everything Job held dear just so he could tell Satan "I told you so". What a loving God is he.
I think the god of the bible is completely demonic and I can't understand why anyone would worship him. He knowingly created an imperfect creation and then got angry when they didn't act perfect and chose to punish everyone in the worst ways possible. Fuck this god. He's angry, jealous, wrathful, unforgiving, and basically an all around fuck head.
