Public transport weirdness?

Almost every time I get on a bus alone a random stranger will talk to me and ask for my number or give me his. Usually they sit next to me start a conversation and then try to get my number, This one dude even told me he was looking for a wife, seriously after sitting next to me for 2 minutes. It happens so often I'm wondering if I look like I want to talk? I don't stare at people and I'm an average looking girl in all respects height, weight et cetera (in my 20s)so is it me or does this happen to everyone?

Yeah I can have my earbuds in and my ipod on, and some guy will ask what I'm listening to. If I can't ignore him, then I give a short answer, pull out my cell phone, and text/pretend to text.

Never, I repeat, never get on any form of public transport without A) a book, and B) earphones. if this still doesn't put people off, try singing aloud or crossing your eyes!

Yes, they see someone alone and are like hey I should get their number. The fact you are without your friends makes it less intimidating. This kind of sounds like something that would happen at a bar.

I live in the kind of city where the OPPOSITE happens. NO ONE talks on the bus and if you do people will try to shut you up as fast as possible and return to their stone-like state. Mainly by ignoring you. The bus is an extremely awkward experience.

But actually I prefer it to pesty men. I've experienced them in other cities and it's staining the gender for me. And its ALWAYS been on trains, train stations or in airports. And its always been Europeans.

Agree with the last two comments - Keep yourself busy - Theres been times where I've felt uncomfortable in this situation and literally texted my bf to call me (because I'm too friendly to interrupt someone and didn't want to seem rude)

yeah you look too friendly...i look grumpy all the time and it keeps them away. then if they talk to you act dismissive. and of course they wont sit next to you if you put something on the seat...der. or you could always be social. whatever.
