Pulling and feeling crinkly hairs!!

I have curly hair and when it's straightened I have this habit sometimes of feeling around my head and looking for these nasty feeling crinkly curly hairs. I try to find the ridgiest curliest ones, pull it out and feel it and run it between my fingers dozens of times. I find them disgusting because of the kinky, kind of coarse texture, but I also am amazed with the feeling of how coarse it is.
I save them now, in this little book I have. I keep it in this hidden spot so whenever I feel like it I can go into my little crinkly hair collection and repeatedly feel these strands.
Also, I do NOT eat them, put them in my mouth, between my teeth, legs, stick them up my nose, ass etc. I just feel them.

IIN??

I was going to say yes until I got to the part where you save them...

Me too! I've always wondered about this. I don't think it's trichotillomania as that's just pulling any hair indiscriminately. My hair is mostly soft and wavy, but when I find one of these rogue hairs on my head, I can't stop touching it and end up pulling it out and examining it. It's not a great habit, so it's a guilty private pleasure for me.

  • The part about you saving them and feeling them all over is not really something I would consider normal...

@chill pill: actually, if you look at trichotillomania forums and pages, you'll find that many of those diagnosed with it DON'T just pull indiscriminately- they look for hair that annoys them in particular, like those especially ridgy strands.

@author: I would suggest doing research on "trichotillomania" and exerting some self-control while it's early. I have this problem and when it started I didn't realize I would never stop finding rough strands to pull out and that I would eventually target entire patches of hair (because they're usually rougher in certain areas) and that those patches would never grow back as thick as before. I'm not trying to scare you or anything, but you should stop before you regret it. Maybe I'll start collecting mine too, so I won't have to pull new ones out. I really enjoy feeling them as well.
Good luck! Take care of your hair. :)

    WEIRDO!!!

if you have so much regret after pulling them, then don't PULL THEM!

and try to use a moisturizer a lot often.

I do it, but I don't save mine. I WOULD save them but I know inevitably I'm going to find another one at some point so I don't bother. [Also I'm too lazy to do this. Haha.]

i am so sorry but you have to talk to someone openly about this. yes it is normal for you to get this irritated about your hair. the only thing that is not normal is that you are saving these strands of hair. For you to save them, shows you do not want to change you force of habit. the only thing I could help you is that you should love your hair as it is. If you think that way you'll be able to live with it and not bear the irritation you have now.
