Really worried about my cat :(

A few years ago we moved to a new house next to a fairly busy road it's a fairly narrow two lane road but highly used,

For years my cat's stayed in the gardens out the back, very occasionally he'd be out the front but he'd be panicking and begging to be let back in.

The last two days though I've spotted him out the front at least 4 times and each time he's been calm as anything.

There's a thing called spotted ( insert town/city name here) in which Facebook users message in and it gets shown out, in the past 3 weeks I've seen on spotted that 2 cats have been run over within screw mins walk, one on my actual road.

I think it's unfair to just shut him in ( plus he's only half mine half my brother's)

How could I stop him from going out the front? I genuinely have no idea

It's not too bad being an indoor kitty. My Siamese cat, Andrew, is an indoor guy who only goes out on supervised visits to the garden.

The most important thing to remember about keeping cats indoors is enrichment. Does kitty have a cat tree or kitty condo? Also he needs playtime with you. Get some good interactive toys for him, like long feathers on sticks type of cat teasers. Play with kitty til he's pooped and panting like a pup and he won't be as inclined to go out.

Additionally, you can look into getting a special cat fence that will keep your best friend in the yard.

Remember an indoor kitty is better than a dead or stolen kitty.

      ^^^ I completely agree!

After a move, I had to keep my cat indoors. The transition was really not that difficult. The key is making sure the cat has enough activity. You might want to also install a bird feeder outside the window to keep kitty busy while you're at work.

Yes, kitties love watch birdies go tweet tweet tweet! My Siamese cat put himself on a schedule so he can be at the window in time for the birdies' live action.

Every vet I know recommends that cats be kept inside, especially in an urban environment. Not only is this because of vehicle traffic, but there are so many diseases that cats can get.

  • You chose to live in a bad place for outdoor animals so now you will have to keep the cat inside to keep him out of traffic. I have 3 cats but I live in the woods so it works here. I wouldn't move somewhere near traffic.

    • Due to an abusive household I had to leave as soon as possible in fear of my safety, I didn't even have time to get in a surveyor before moving, I really didn't have a choice of location

They have these sensor devices to keep cats out of your yard and I use them for the opposite to scare my cat from leaving the yard. Called Ssscat or many brands and types out there. I originally bought them to get my cat out of the Christmas tree and I ended up scaring myself mostly:) I feel the same way I'm constantly worried about my cat getting run over but he loves it outside. Good luck

RoseIsabella had a good point, but if you want to let your kitty be a ferocious lion, I would just reccomend keeping a very close eye on your kitty when its out, and when you can't watch the kitty, give him the garage or an area just the cat, to be a cat , thats enclosed and big enough to roam, but not get in any real danger. Good luck (:
