In my previous poll discussing IP bans, a few questions/problems were raised, and I would like to answer/give a potential solution to a few of them

1. "Even with an IP ban someone can use another device, or even change their IP address"

Yes. Unfortunately this is an issue which I had thought about before hand, there will always be flaws. But I feel that Email verification may also help kill off this plague of abusive users. As to changing IP address. It's a lot easier said than done. And I'd like to think that they wouldn't go through the trouble of changing their IP address to troll on this website.

2. "Complaining about trolls is completely troll bait"

Yes. However if no one complains. They will continue to run free. Someone needs to speak up.

3. "unless they are sending you viruses or stalking you to the point of disrupting your personal life, they cannot really do anything at all"

Some of the abuse I have seen is actually Illegal. If properly investigated it is a potential police matter if the victims wish to raise it

I agree. Some trolls are quite amusing and harmless. But as I have stated some are horrifically abusive. I'm sure the management is intelligent enough to judge who is harmless and who is not.

    I see you used some of my examples.

    I'm wondering what exactly these trolls are doing that is upsetting people so much. The only user I see harassing people is crusades, who seems to be somebody who likes to get a rise out of people and it seems that people continue to feed him.

    I've heard some people say they get harassing private messages too. Do they still do it if you don't reply?

    I thought of a solution though.

    They can make it possible for users to block each other so that they do not see their activity. This is how it's done on facebook and it seems to work pretty well.

    Trolls are part of the internet experience and it is impossible to get rid of them. Its just like dealing with an asshole at work only you never have to meet them.
