I was in a workplace relations class at my local tech school, and we were discussing diversity, when the teacher asked: "What is one thing you've believed about another race that has been proven wrong?"

I hid my response from the rest of the class and waited till they all left to tell the teacher about it.

I would like to be honest, but my experience has taught me that people often get offended particularly if they are of the mentioned race.

    You are correct. People do get offended if their race is mentioned even if its completely true. It does not even have to be a generation either. It could be as simple as saying "The man on tv who was caught robbing was identified as an African American" and everyone will jump and say "You only sending him to prison because he is black and you must hate all black people".

    Even if the fact is a person who happened to be black committed the crime and that does not mean all black people are criminals however this is what people assume. People assume that if someone the same color as them does something bad it reflects poorly on them. It does not if you had no connection with that PERSON!

    However I know I personally would have said it anyways. If a white or Hispanic man committed a crime it does not mean you hate the white or Hispanic people. It means someone who happens to be Hispanic or White committed the crime. People need to stop promoting racism based on the fact they think one person of that color screwing up means the entire race is bad. The individual matters and the color does not!

    well i guess you did the right thing although i would have just said it. especially if it was about a stero type like black people and chicken or mexicans with water melons or even white people being white trash, by the way im mexican/hispanic whateva

    its true people can get offended, some ppl more than others. i think it is very wise of you and considerate to not talk about it and say things that could be taken wrong by somone around you.

    I think what u did was good. U didn't want to offend anyone so u waited till after class to tell the teacher. U sound like a nice person :)
