i enjoy insulting people in Shakespearean English i find endlessly amusing. such as:
thou gorbellied onion-eyed maggot pie and thou fobbing beef-witted fustilarian. The looks on their face showing that they dont understand are priceless!!!My friends and I do it all the time. IIN???
Hell yeah! Shakespeare is fantastic. A girl I went out with bought me Shakespeare insult fridge magnets. Whenever either of us went into the kitchen there was a fresh insult there from the person who'd gone in before. Well, it amused us anyway. We both noticed it was even more effective if introduced sparingly into modern English. I really did once say to someone: Shut up, you pedlar's excrement! And there's a line from Coriolanus that I adore - More of your conversation would infect my brain.
However good the insults are, though, the compliments are even better. Juliet's little soliloquy about how fine her Romeo is, for example.
...and when he dies
Take him and cut him out in little stars
And he will make the face of heaven so fine
That all the world will be in love with night
And pay no worship to the garish sun.
I know it's a bad comparison but I was reading the memorable quotes on the IMDB site for the film Gigli. It's well worth a look for an example of how far we've fallen in our abuse of the English language. Whosoever penned that cursed drab is nought but a carcass fit for hounds!
I love shakespeare too!! I wish more people talked like Shakespearean times!!
