I wouldnt want a surgeon who has tremors personally. Anesthesiologists make sometimes more than surgeons. They dont have near the risk either. Maybe thats a good fit.

Depends, if you’re gonna be shaking like crazy and slicing all over the place then maybe not

  • Of course you can, beta blockers ( such as propranolol, and atenolol) takes care of tremors.

Nope, if you have tremors you certainly should not try to become a surgeon. Would you want someone who had tremors performing surgery on you?

No, you already know the answer too. It's just not morally right to put other people's health at risk when you have a medical condition that will compromise your ability to not kill people & get sued 10 different ways for negligence.

Fortunately, if you are passionate about pursuing a job in the medical field there's a lot of options. Research, teaching, pathology. If you're really passionate about dissecting humans, become a mortician. You won't kill anyone that way

No, I get it. It doesn't sound like you have a majorly debilitating illness, but if you're a surgeon, it literally takes ONE slip of the hand to sever someone's abdominal aorta & have to live with the experience of watching them bleed out on your table. They're human beings, the people you operate on. They have families & lives.

I get that you don't want to give up on your passion, but there's tons of medical shit you could do. It's a broad field & you can absolutely make a career out of it without killing people

The problem is that these issues rarely stay at the same level. They typically get better or worse.

Part of being a surgeon (or even a Dr) is identifying your own medical conditions to your employers and insurance companies.

I doubt that you will ever be able to practice as a surgeon (or even train as one) with tremors and the insurance companies and medical clinics will deny you due to liability and malpractice concerns.

You are likely better off as a research mortician.
