How about an adage from Voltaire: "The best is the enemy of the good."
In other words, perfection is overrated, and never being satisfied with anything less than perfection will completely screw up your life. In fact, if you have the attitude that nothing less than perfection will be good enough, you'll most likely never start any personal project because you know perfection is out of your reach, you'll be crap in the world of work because you never finish a task on time, and you'll never be satisfied with any relationship because you'll always believe that the perfect person for you is still out there somewhere.
Reminds me of Alan Watts spiel on perfection
To be perfect literally means to be complete, to be complete as a human means to be dead, so how could something incomplete be perfect
It's a disease that silently kills, especially people in the creative fields. I'm saying from my own experience.
When about to poop in a public restroom always check for toilet paper first.
Don't bother even thinking about getting into a relationship with someone unless they make you really, really happy.
Being single is much better than being in a shitty or even a mediocre relationship. Hold out for the gold.
meaning and happiness are overrated; not everyone can achieve them, and the very act of attempting to get your hands on them will likely do more to prevent you from getting them than otherwise. focus more on living an interesting life than a meaningful or happy one. The latter two are more likely a result of the former than the other way around.
Pride is not confidence and humility is not shame. It's okay to be confident and humble, but being prideful and arrogant is not worth it. You will always get knocked down and it's a humiliating fall. Something I've also tried to work on is self awareness. There's almost a humourous irony I see in a majority of people- things they say they dislike about others is almost always true about them. The more they boast about how confident/truthful/loyal they are, the less likely it is to be true. Learn about narcissistic abuse, gaslighting, and love bombing. It can save you from a lot of toxicity in relationships.
No matter who you are, you don't deserve to be treated like garbage by someone else. If you think you're being mistreated, let it be known. From the responses you get and if behavior changes, it will let you know what kind of person that other person is.
Move at least 30 minutes every day and stay hydrated. Eat breakfast even if it's small, and try to go for protein.
If you constantly shit your pants you won't have many friends & you'll die lonely.
There are only 4 ways to get what you want in this world. Currency, Manipulation, Chance or Force.
An eye for an eye dose not leave the world blind, it keeps others from taking your other eye.
Don't rely on others, be as independent as possible. If you give people the ability to feed you, you give them the ability to starve you as well.
Don't go to college unless you already know what you want to do & what you want to do requires a college degree, other wise you're just wasting your money.
If you're a man, never get married. If you love them just live with them. If they threaten to leave you over it, let them.
If you're a woman, find a man stupid enough to get married without a prenup. You'll have all the power then.
Never take anyone at their word & record all your conversations, carry a camera on you at all times. Invest in a memory tower to store the recordings.
I don't know half of you half as well as I should like, and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve.
Love a country instead of a person. Because it is the love that asks for nothing in return, and asks no questions, stands the test, asks nothing in return, is solely for one who the love is for and makes undaunted the final sacrifice. Work for the people, and you will never feel lonely. If you can be successful yourself, then why not take your whole country forward with you?
