Should a proud catholic celebrate 31st october?

As you all know, tomorrow is the so called 'Halloween'. But I'm not going to celebrate it because I think that it's against Christian teachings. Yahweh is our Lord and we should only serve him. Halloween is a demonstration of worship to Satan.

When I was a kid, my mother was friends with this fairly fundie Catholic lady. One time we went over to her house for Halloween. Everything was pretty normal, except they carved a cross in the back of their jack o' lantern so it would shine on their wall.

Struck me as kind of weird, but it was nice that she still let her kids have fun... she just wanted to make sure Satan knew he wasn't welcome for real.

That's actually pretty cool. Satan is an asshole.

How can you be a Catholic and not celebrate All Hallows Eve? "Halloween" is just taken from the Catholic name for it. :P

Halloween's got nothing to do with satan. Look it up.
It's mostly just a fun time to get free candy from strangers these days
Just like christmas is a fun time to get free presents from family.

It's all just an excuse to get a day off and spend time with family or friends.
I see no point in this whiny excuse for religion to throw fits. Most religiosity involved has faded out of both christmas and halloween to the point where most people are incorrect on their origins anyhow.

He cant look it up. Hes having too much fun being Christian and calling everything "Devils work" instead of looking up the auctually reasoning behind holidays. You cant expect everyone to have intelligence or even understand thier own religion for that matter. OP gets a double F for being double stupid. Both about holidays and about religion.

I agree with you, but I don't see what that has to do with being Catholic, which I'm not.

I know it's a pretty sick religion. Don't expect any sympathy from me when your child raping pedophile priests condemn you to hell for masturbating. You're certainly not showing any Christian mercy to anyone at IIN.

With that mindset it's completely normal to not celebrate. It could be worse though... some people have to work so others can celebrate, so they have no choice about what they do tomorrow.

Catholicism is semi-pagan anyway. Why be so worried?

Just exactly what would be anti christian about celebrating "the end of the harvest season"?
You people are truly sick. Sick, sick, sick.

Oh Sailor we cant expect everyone to know these things. Some Christians just like slapping a SATAN label on anything they dont like. Not that it actually goes against the religion. I dont know why this was thumbed down. When you seem to understand the Holiday better than the retarded fucking OP.

As a newly born again Christian, Halloween went from one of my favorite "holidays" to one I refuse to participate in.

My conversion process involved experiencing demons first hand, and after I realized that the devil and his demons are very real, it changed my outlook on everything.

Some of the things that turned me off to Halloween from a Christian standpoint is that people dress up as demons, witches, and other stuff like that, which probably makes the demons happy. These days a lot of women dress up in very immodest clothing, which as a recovering porn/masturbation addict, is something that causes me to stumble. People go around loading up on candy, which is quite bad for your health.

It also has occult and superstitious origins.

So someone dressing up as a witch is bad but you molesting a girl is fine? If you truly found Christ, why not turn yourself in for your past crimes?

Not sure when I did that, I only fantasized about molesting girls, and I feel absolutely horrible that I ever did such a thing. I cried my heart out to God for looking at his children in such a way and He forgave me.

And yes, dressing up as a witch is 'bad.' Witchcraft is real, and people can call upon spirits/demons to do their bidding. It is not something that should be glorified.

Why not turn yourself in for a different crime?

No its not. If you knew anything about Halloween you would realize it has nothing to do with Satan. Holloween is when the dead come back to earth.

Its also a mash up of many other traditions happening in October or moved to October. Like giving out candy use to be when everyone gave food to beggers.

Its also the idea that along with good spirits there are bad spirits who come back and to hide from them you must dress like creatures of the night. So no it has nothing to do with celebrating SATAN. Lanterns are made to help guide wandering spirits down the correct path as well as make sure they do not come into your home.

So yeah only an idiot thinks its a holiday about Satan, however you are free to not celebrate it if you like. Just dont go be stupid and lie about what Halloween is ACTUALLY about you retard!

In Mexico its called the Day of the dead where you honor the spirits of your dead loved ones. Yeah I sure Satan really loves it when you honor your dead relatives. I sure many Christians dont also go to the cemetery every so often to leave flowers at dead peoples graves. Your ignorance is absolutely amazing!

It is much like how we celebrate Guy Fawkes night here in New Zealand. Many Catholics I know, partake in the firework celebrations even though it is a celebration of the Catholics being stopped from blowing up the British houses of Parliament.

Guy Fawkes can mean one thing to one group and another to another group. But in the end we all partake in the fun of lighting fireworks and enjoying company regardless of religious or non religious background.

I think Halloween is for kids anyway. But apparently a lot of adults disagree. Anyway your reason for not celebrating is normal.
