In a sense they already are in a defensive pact with the EU, but officially joining NATO will make it clear that Sweden and Finland are not to be fucked with

To be fair Finland was already a country to not be fucked with seeing how well the winter war went.

Of course. I'm glad that my grandparents home country will soon be under protection of the largest alliance in the world.

Not that we needed it of course as how well the winter war ended last time. This time they will have the full backing of the alliance and finlandization will hopefully be called something else.

    • So it'll be easier for Russia to invade and occupy them?

Nato countries just saw a reason to have nato. If russia would of played ball for another decade most likely nato would dissolve.

But ofcourse when russia decided to invade a country that signed a no war policy for not harboring nukes that gave the extra motivation for non nato countries to join as any policy that they signed with russia officially became subject to be voided at any time at russias behest.

So they wanted extra insurance. And russia did a big whoops.
