Should high pressure salesmen should be illegal.. esp mattress?

I bought a mattress set/frame from a reputable retail dealer, went to the store, laid on the same one as yesterday, and smiled with relief, saying the words "I'll take it" in the joy of a moment mumble fumble. After the fumble, there was such high pressure to buy now, and I did. I walked out of the store feeling like I'd been targetted. I've had it now for 2 years, and cuss the salesman every night for the pressure in buying it! I just can't get it out of my mind.

I’ve always admired them personally, the same with really clever scammers. If you give in to pressure/fall for a scam, you deserve it.

I remember reading number one most narcissistic take is people believing that if others are cheated out of money they deserve it

Oh my God, I'm so sorry to hear that! Pushy salespeople always give me the heebie jeebies.

I once took a job at radio station in a very small market as a junior salesperson, because there weren't a lot of on air jobs there due to automation, and satellite radio programming. I probably shouldn't have taken the job, because it's not like my personality. I really only remember one thing, and that is, "the sale begins at no". I'm really more of a, "no means no", or "no is a complete sentence", sort of person.

I can argue all day about something I believe in when I have the energy for that sort of thing, but I usually could care less about whether, or not someone purchases a particular good or service. In the end I'm infinitely more concerned about stupid people surgically mutilating cats by declawing them than whether, or not people buy things.

Have you ever read any books on boundaries? Learning to set boundaries is a really important life skill, and unfortunately many of us have learned in our early lives, and families of origin that it's somehow impolite to say no, or set boundaries which of course is not true.

I hate going to places with salesmen for that. It gets annoying. I use to work in sales and it would bother me how the supervisor would push me to put more pressure on people including old people who claimed to be on a fixed income.
