Should i be concerned about my daughters wanting to do this?
My daughters (ages 10 and 15) have always been close despite the five year age gap. Recently, they discovered that trope of two characters being handcuffed together without the key through a re-run of an old sitcom (Full House, to be more precise).
They were laughing and wondering aloud about how well they'd handle being in that situation. I overheard the discussion and relayed an incident from my own childhood. I told them about how my dad (who was a cop) once handcuffed me and their aunt together for a day to get us to stop fighting with each other. Both my daughters got a huge laugh out of that.
The next day, they told me they want to know what it'd be like to be stuck together for so long. They want to buy a pair of handcuffs off Amazon (real ones) so they can lock themselves together one weekend. The plan they've come up with goes like this. One Saturday morning, after they're up and dressed, they'll handcuff themselves together and hand over the keys to me. I'm to hold them for 24 hours, during which time I'm not to give them back no matter what until the following morning.
As I've said, they're both really close so I can kinda understand why they might think it fun to do this together. And I guess the challenge of having to do everything together might even be fun when it's voluntarily chosen and not a punishment. Before you ask, they say they've worked out how to handle the bathroom situation, lol! That was the first thing I thought of to try and dissuade them.
I know kids sometimes do goofy stuff, but should I be concerned at all about them wanting to do this? Does anyone see any harm in it or should I let them go for it? I told them I'd have to sleep on this.
