Should i give up on driving after failing 4x?

Hi, I went to take my driving test for the 4th time today and I passed parallel parking (which is what I failed on the last 3x) so I was pretty happy. It was POURING rain when I was taking this test and I was out in the road doing left hand turns and i was doing fine until I had to make a turn and I didn't see the truck coming bc OF THE DAMN RAIN. My instructor made me stop and we switched, I feel like such a failure. I'm bawling my eyes out because I'm the only one out of my friends who doesn't have a license and I just want to give up on driving. I honestly feel like I'm incapable of driving and driving is not for me. I had a mean instructor too, he failed me the first time. I don't want to give up but I feel like every time I feel confident, something has to ruin it. The rain ruined the test. If it was sunny, I think I might've passed. I'm so upset and i just don't know what to do.

My dad thinks it's a waste to keep trying. He thinks I shouldn't have even went today due to the horrible weather. He thinks I'm just incapable and I shouldn't be on the road. I just feel miserable. :(

I know, and it's very easy to think like that!!! A friend of mine also failed because of heavy rain, because it got her more nervous and the instructor was such an asshole.... keep trying, it will happen when you dont expect it <3

Thank you so much! You understand and this made me feel a lot better posting this whole thing (besides some of the negativity)

I just have a few friends who were just way more unlucky than you!
i was with my friend the day before she took her 7th exam, she was like "why am i even taking it, it's not worth it, i will fail".... so i tried to cheer her up as much, and the change in her attitude, she went there like "Okay this time is gonna be different!" was what helped the most.

He should be encouraging you that you can do it

        Because you can

You can do whatever you want to. Just have a positive attitude

Only four? Dude, I have coworkers that failed 5-9 times. Don't quit. Just keep trying and you'll eventually pass.
    :)

If you can't see an approaching truck because it's raining then you shouldn't be driving anyway. That could've been a pedestrian.

More practice in all weather conditions would be a good idea and another good idea would be to stop blaming the rain or the instructor.

Blaming your failure on others, including the weather, is a sign of a WEAK person. You FAILED because you weren't paying enough attention. Be glad it didn't cost you your LIFE.

Don't give up, unless you want to be a LEECH on your family and friends for the rest of your life. SAD!

    • First of all, I'm not blaming anyone. I literally don't need your bullshit response telling me that I need to stop being weak.

Ignore him. He's a dick, like your dad is being. Yesnomaybeso is exactly right. Listen to her.

That comment was directed towards Steve, not you. All you really have to do is try again. If you feel anxious behind the wheel, know that it'll fade with experience.

Your first comment to the OP:

"Blaming your failure on others, including the weather, is a sign of a WEAK person."

Seems even you don't read your own shit comments. Or are you claiming you preempted what someone was going to say to you?

This guy speaks from experience. You don't wanna end up a sad old overweight bastard like him that spends everyday whining online about all the bad people the internet tells him about, do you?

Nice as it is to have my own personal hate account, YOU NEED TO STOP BEING WEAK.

Dad says driving should be fairly simple. After reading your story, he is thinking you are likely a danger to society and the driving instructor is justified in not allowing you to endanger multiple lives per mile for years on end.

He also says that once you do get your license he can guarantee you will have to deal with rain at some point, so get used to it.

Agreed. Some people do not have the spatial awareness or common sense to drive.

Don't give up. I failed theory twice and practical too. I had a different instructor the time I passed and it did make a huge difference. First one was a psycho.

My brother failed 3x, and passed the 4th. Besides the rain, do you have a major sense to anxiety at the wheel? It's quite common for people to be nervous behind the wheel during the test, that was why my brother failed at first.

Also, why drive in the rain, are you in England?

Don't give up. And you have a right to ask for a different instructer next time if it turns out the same guy. Have you considered going for the automatic one instead of manual? Could maybe just take abit of pressure if your mind if you don't have to worry about gears while concentrating on the road. Just in idea. Stick with it though and soon don't leave it ages because you'll forget a lot, keep it fresh in your head

Yeah you should. Ride a bicycle instead! It's all around better. You get exercise , save money, save emissions , save lives! Ditch the car, ride a bike.
