Should i learn trumpet or banjo?

Should I learn trumpet or banjo?

I already play quite a few instruments (though I'm not really great at any of them). I am just always curious about different instruments and love trying new things. I just took on the cello about a year ago and now I really really want to try trumpet. I have NEVER tried a brass instrument before so it will take a while to get good. I also fell in love with banjo recently. Can't decide which one to go for.

I already play piano, guitar, bass guitar, and cello (and ukulele if that counts) and I think adjusting to banjo tuning will be confusing. Also, if I decide on trumpet, should I get one of those plastic ones? (I hear they're good for beginners). For the record, I like indie/experimental, folk rock, and jazz.

Any suggestions welcomed! :)

Both if you can... I always think you should learn as many instruments as you can get your hands on.. They all help each other! If you must just choose one though, then I'd say trumpet.. It's such a different instrument to what you already play, only playing single notes rather than chords, so it'll get you thinking scales and melodies more than banjo. Also there's much more opportunity to play it.. Many kinds of music have space for a trumpet line to jam along... Banjo on the wrong (most?) kinds of music can really ruin things!

PS.. The plastic trumpet sounds good. I've got a plastic clarinet. It's really designed for kids to learn on but I use it at festivals, jams etc.

  • Hmmm...IDK

Someone like me who plays multiple instruments! YES! Play the trumpet. It's more fun. Or better yet, go with the saxophone. I might be biased, but it's the best.

It is extremely hard to learn, let along to master. One of the most challenging instruments in my opinion.

However, all this is worth the time and effort, as the 'ding' you get when you hit in in just the right place at just the right time is extremely satisfying. It can even save a person's life. Just think about it makes my entire body tremble in excitement...

Banjo would probly be easier. Since they are kinda for different styles of music you should pick which ever you like more.
