Should i quit my first job?

So, I started my first job in January and I absolutely dread it. I know first jobs are never fun, but man am I having a rough time. A friend recommended the job to me and when I got interviewed I got hired on the spot from my academic and extracurricular work, and later found out that they barely hire anyone and that it's super hard to get a job there. My management and boss are super nice and are super flexible with me which I really appreciate, but the job itself absolutely kills me. As I said, it's super hard to get a job there so that means they always ask me to cover shifts I don't normally do, which is fine once in a while, but it happens all the time and if I can't it's almost like a guilt-trip thing. I work in a store that's themed and not a normal retail store so I don't know a lot, and I've tried learning everything I can by myself but I'm not passionate about what's being sold there so it's really hard. There's also points during the week where nobody will come in for hours on end and I always work alone. I'm a super social person so that's really hard for me. But like I said, the management and boss are super nice and they're super flexible and tell me they really appreciate me as an employee which makes me want to stick it out, but I'm miserable at the same time. Is this a normal thing to have for a first job and should I just stick with it? Any advice is appreciated.

Only dump if you have something else lined up. However keep in mind the grass is not always greener on the other side.

  True which is the cause of my hesitation. I feel I have it pretty good in a good working environment, it's just the lack of people and duties to full-fill that drives me crazy. I'm definitely the kind of person to constantly need something to do, which I know isn't always possible in the workforce. I have had a couple of job opportunities, but I think I will stick with it a bit longer.

I think it's normal for your first job. Work sucks but over time you get use to it.

You never know just how good you have it till its gone. As others have said, DO NOT QUIT until you have something else lined up.

SLOW DOWN! first jobs can be fun, my first job was fucking awesome!

As for the descion to leave, its up to you. I might give it more time if I were you, but you might have better options. Weigh the pros and cons

  Interesting! I haven't heard many people say they had an enjoyable first job experience haha. And you're right, I should give it more time since it is still quite early. I've created a pros and cons list and will see how things play out with time.

    Not saying its common, just that its possible. Looling back I had a very fortunate set of circumstances at my first job. Laid back manager, lots of friends, lots of free food, hot ass waitresses, bathroom stalls to fap in to said waitresses, ect, ect.

        Not always, but the more I worked there the more I liked it. I didn't actually jack off that much it was kinda a joke. Did end up banging one o them chicks later tho.

I hate to tell you this, but most jobs are like that. If you're working with and for people who treat you well, be grateful for that and for your pay cheque, you're in a much better position than if out of work.

Part of growing up is learning to focus on the positive aspects of having to go to work every day rather than the negative aspects.

  Most jobs don't have assigned duties or tasks to complete? And alone working? But yes, I'm very grateful for the people which is my main reason of staying.
  
  And yes I see how it could be a part of growing up, but I truly don't want to have the mindset of hating work if that makes sense? Like in the future I'd like to have a job that I enjoy going to (despite each job having its ups and downs). But yes, as always a first job is always a great learning experience and I have gained a lot of growth and am grateful for even being able to have one and get paid.

My mum's advice: stick with it for a year. Less than that, and your next recruiter might ask questions or be put off hiring you.

Also, in order to avoid employment gaps (which could make it look as if you've been fired from your first place and don't want to admit it), get a new job offer before handing in your notice, and not the other way around.

  Would you still consider that advice for a very first job though? I feel first jobs are somewhat figuring out what you like and dislike about working, not that every job is perfect. I'm genuinely asking, I really don't know.
  
  And I would absolutely be sure to have another job lined up; I wouldn't want that on my resume or to show I'm not a hard worker.

    I think it depends on how you'd frame it to your next employer. You will be able to brush it off once you've had like four jobs and stuck at them, but I think you're taking a risk here. This luxury of picking and choosing is not something that baby boomer employers had when they started out. You don't want to give the impression that you're dithering around and have no sticking power.

    Maybe you need a job where you work with people?
    
    I've had jobs where I had to work independently, and really it, but we're not all the same. Maybe you need to work as part of a team, or in a more team like atmosphere?

      Yeah haha, it's really not my kinda thing. I don't use any of the products a whole lot, but I do try my best to learn.
      
      And I would love to work with people, but I also don't want to seem like a job-hopper or show that I have bad work ethic because despite me having a difficult time not seeing anyone, I do my job as best as I can and help people as best as I can.
