Should i quit my job and leave california

So I am 27 and have moved several times since I was 18 chasing work. Everything was temporary and only lasted a short time. So I am generally focused on making sure I have a new job lined up. Currently I live in a area I can't afford in a customer service job. I am very likely going to be promoted and wont be fired through the corona shutdowns. Currently I rent a room for cheap by have no privlages, and not allowed to use the kitchen. At 18 I got kicked out and got a job and lived on my own since than. I would have gone to college but was told by FASFA parents are suppose to help pay a kids college. My current job gives me time for school and now I qualify as an independent according to Fasfa. So my plan was to get an AS in accounting and get a bookkeeping job and move to Chicago. But I won't have a garauntee job there. Just california is such a struggle to try to survive. A months rent is my entire months paycheck. I can't afford to live here anymore and I am always floating just above homelessness.

    Be bold at work. Directly ask them about this promotion. You have nothing to lose. At least then yuou have more concrete info to make a decision.

    If you really wanna make good money look into north dakota oil rigs. They party alot up there, theres dorms. You all make pretty good money. If I ever get fired ill go up there and drive trucks for 3 times what it pays in my city. They will probably even pay for your flight there and give you a room. They have trouble finding ppl because the weather sucks. I saw a job opening on google for CDL drivers with their own truck it was over 300,000 a year on the website.

      Right now the oil industry in North Dakota is partially shut down. Lots of people out of work. Many companies have gone out of business - only the strongest have survived.

      Oil needs to come back to about $56/barrel before a lot of shale oil jobs in North Dakota comes back. That may happen; but we are not there yet.

    What you need is better information, and Google has it. Try these searches.

    Cheapest cities and towns for college students.
    How to live in California cheap.

    In your case, try to find out more than you want to know. Do additional searches based on what you uncover. That's a good approach because you don't really know what info will be most useful to you until you have far more of it than you need.

    I once moved 13 times in 10 years chasing jobs that never lasted long - or vanished once I got there.

    I learned to not move to high cost areas to live.

    I'd move from that part of California. I may be mistaken; but I do understand that Northern California is not so expensive.

    Do you have any family or relatives in another state where you could stay until you get another job elsewhere?

        Understand. So did I.

        I used to take weekend+ trips to look for work in other areas that I could drive to within 6 hours. Today you can do a lot of pre-research on the internet. But, I think you would find such trips useful (and I've slept in my car and washed up at a park or rest area many times).
