Should i take it?

I got a offer to work on a ranch. The deal is I work on the ranch doing various choirs and I can live and eat there. I will get 20$ a week. I do love the idea of working on a ranch and I would love do something like this long term maybe for a big farm. Should I take the offer? I currently am not employed right now and most of my family is poor. What should I do? I love animals too.

I wouldn't. Not unless you can't afford to eat and don't have a place to stay. $20 a week isn't shit. One of the purposes of a job, other than food and shelter, is to be able to enjoy the things that money affords you. My first job was at a ranch. It's hard fucking work. Not that hard work isn't good for you, but god damn at least earn a decent wage if you're going to do it.

  • I agree with what others have said. This does sound like an interesting job but the pay is EXTREMELY poor. I wouldn't recommend taking this job.

    • Would doing it for free be better? Since even if I dont get anything I can put it on my resume. I can move in 2 months were I will have more permanent residence.

      • True, but I think you should have a better income if you are not receiving pay right now, though I don't know your entire background. Are you attending college? Do you have enough money saved up?

Since you want this on your resume, are you taking this for a college internship or something similar? I can see doing so then, but if that is not the case I would go for something better paying on your resume (not that it looks bad, but for something to supply your means better). Do you have any other opportunities at this moment?

          • OK. I still think it is best to find a job that supplies your means better to save up money for school. Unless you plan on taking loans out. I don't really think this job is a bad idea, we all have dream jobs but I don't think it offers the best pay.

$20 per week? Per day isn't even much. Did you mean per day? Per hour?

Well, you'd be making $20 a week more than a slave.

That's just a typo, right? You actually mean mean 20 bucks an hour right? Because if it's actually 20 bucks a week, you shouldn't even bother.

I'd at least ask for minimum wage! Twenty bucks a week, even with room and board is a sweat shop wage!

Wow $20 a week and you get to ride horses and hang out with lots of cowboys. You could do it just for the life experience I suppose.

Maybe it's still 1950 on that ranch when $20 a week was good money.

Is Ranch Dressing included in your $20 a week?

You've got nothing going now, I gather, so why not take it?
All those who say you shouldn't probably are sitting on their asses waiting for someone to give them something.
You have an opportunity to get a job that pays room and board plus a little bread doing something you really want to do, right?
Work hard and you will get better pay down the line.
I used to work the new kids on the boats really hard for shit wages. The ones with balls and desire ended up making 20k (plus room, board, clothing, laundry, etc.), to live on a yacht traveling around the world living in grand style.
The lazy slobs who thought they were too good to start at the bottom, certainly never climbed a single rung on the ladder of success, with me.
Go for it, it seems you have nothing to lose.
