Should is it normal be changed to " is it socially acceptable " ?

I look through alot of Stories and Polls, and many things that people claim to not be " normal ", actually is. The thing I've noticed is that many of us give our opinions/thoughts based on whether or not something is socially acceptable, rather then normal.

Yes, it should be changed because it's more proper. 20

lots of normal things are not socially acceptable.
    social acceptability is subjective.

Not many questions asked here are asking if it's socially acceptable! They're not looking for etiquette lessons. They just want to know if others do the same things or think the same way. Most of the questions is about private thoughts, stuff done in private or in close relationships or family situations anyway. They've got to already have a clue that it's maybe not socially acceptable being that they have to ask about it on a website.

    "IIN" > "IISA"

You and dappled have to think of this from a public perspective, not a "correct" one. Would anyone use Facebook if it was called "Social Networking Website"? Not as many, I'd assume. It would be less lurring. The site's current name suggests there's some insane, "abnormal" stuff on it. Socially Unacceptable sounds less exciting. Understand?

I agree with you. Normal and socially acceptable aren't the same thing. In World War II, it became normal for humans to gas and incinerate other humans based on their religion. Is it socially acceptable because it's normal? No.

Normal is what "does" happen. Socially acceptable is what "should" happen.

I'm with you on this as I always consider the latter.

Uh. I think it's good. IIN is pretty general, whereareas IISA is a bit..er...well, I prefer IIN.
