Should japan apologize and acknowledge their atrocities in ww2?

Do you think Japan should acknowledge their atrocities in WW2, and apologize for them? The way it is right now, they deny any of the atrocities they committed, and glorify their role in WW2 in their history books.

They should apologize and acknowledge their actions 10
They shouldn't 14

Which is ironic that our government complains about russians targeting civilian targets (even after Ukraine puplically showed were arming civilians) when we actuallt dropped nukes on civilians, werent even military targets. Its all bullshit. Not saying its ok to kill civilians but idk how ppl dont see through the bullshit.

They just get your favorite celebrity to make a comment and the mentally enslaved masses bite hook line and sinker. Its so easy to control the masses its amazing really.

At a certain point you just got to let the past be the past. Feuding over what happened 3 generations ago is so god damn outdated

Why would they be obliged to apologize to something that happened years ago?

No they shouldnt. And the people that died during ww2 should be remembered and respected because if anyone deserves fault its the emperor. The troops died for their country bravely. They werent the ones behind the scenes making decisions. But theyre the ones that died.

What good does it do anyone to hold the current generation of a country's population accountable for things they never did? I think all countries should look to Rwanda as an example. The way the Hutus and Tutsis were able to move past extremely recent atrocities and heal as a country should be what other countries strive for

Little to nothing is gained by a countries/populations apology. A great example of that would be the the 2008 formal apology by the Australian Prime Minister at the time Kevin Rudd, to the Aboriginal people for the slavery that occurred in their history. Hardly any Aboriginal people were happy, with the majority demanding financial compensation. This of course went nowhere and the situation remained as if the formal apology never happened.

Best thing for any people is to be aware of their nations history, acknowledge it and strive to ensure we've learned from their mistakes. Those that disagree are often looking to gain whatever they can from the system whether it be social standing, or monetary gain.

Nah. They have already repented for their sins by giving anime to the world.

Yes, I think they should apologize, but I also think they are too busy trying to be kawaii these days.

Yeah they should, what they did to most of asia is horrible and it gets in the way of building constructive relationships. That being said, it would probably put a dent in Japans patriotism.

    Acknowledge? Yes. Apologize? No.

We're long past the point for any countries involved in the world war needing to *apologize* for the atrocities they committed. We all committed some sort of horrible act during the period of time, but frankly no amount of apology will fix it.

With that being said, it is insane that Japan won't even admit publicly that they committed the attrocities their leadership enacted at the time. From my understanding, they refuse to admit to attempting a form of genocide.

I think what we did to the innocent Japanese citizens outweighs the attack on Pearl Harbor. But keep playing the victim, Americans are good at it.

    • Bruh, look up the Nanking massacre and unit 731. What the Japanese did in Asia is comparable to what the nazis did in Europe. The bombs are just a dent in comparison. Some 10-million chinese, mostly civilians, perished during the japanese invasion and occupation, and millions more in Indochina. It's the japanese that have played victims over the past 77 years. ( I'm not American )

You're not American? Are you not aware we kept the Japanese-Americans in internment camps during that time like the Nazis did to the Jews? Are you not aware of the genocides my country has intentionally committed towards Native Americans? The slavery of Africans? White Supremacy seeping its way into every inkling of our government and us very proudly holding it up until very, very recently in history?

Ever heard of The Birth of a Nation? In fact, you are speaking to someone who is the direct descendant of a founding father, John Hart. My grandfather is also third cousins with George H. W. Bush. My surname is Holliday and when you look that name up connected to the Bush family you can find a long history about my family and a sad history about why there are so many black people with the same last name. It's because my family owned a bunch of slaves. But am I, an individual, responsible for that because I am an American and they are my kin? No. I'm responsible for my own actions.

The people who perished and got turned into dust were innocents. They weren't the same Japanese doing those things to the Pearl Harbor or the Chinese. They were civilians. They were every day people. Just like even though I am related to the Bushes, I am not ultimately responsible for the horrific war crimes he committed. I didn't even know I was related to them until I was an adult.

Innocent Japanese civilians should not have had to pay for the evils of their government.

War is evil. The bombs dropped on Japan should have never existed.

        • The alternative to the bombs would have been an invasion, and that would have costed many more lives than the bombs. And yeah, I know about the treatment of Japanese in America, that reaction kinda made sense.

As an American, my country doesn't need defending from the Japanese. What we did to them in retaliation was a crime against humanity.

You are not defending my countrymen nor my country. The bombs and the camps are a deep shame. The people we put in those camps were fellow AMERICANS.

You don't know what you are talking about. You think you do but you don't.
