Should there be an 'are you sure?' option?

I feel terrible because I accidentally reported 2 or 3 posts since I've been on this site. I feel bad for the OP and I also felt bad because the admin had to waste time checking into it.

I meant to hit 'reply' but I hit 'report' instead. I wish there had been a prompt that came up that said 'Are you sure you want to report this post?'.

Do you think this should be a feature? Has this happened to you?

It should be a feature! This has happened to me too! 30
It hasn't happened to me but I agree that this feature should be there 38
There's no need for this feature. 17

Don't worry about it, it doesn't take us very long to review. No problem.

    • Oh OK. Well I'd still feel bad if the post got deleted because of an accidental reporting.

It's happened to me before, I think it would be a good idea. The less time wasted by The Management, the better.

It's easy to add the "are you sure?" I just don't want to make it more tedious for people. Depending on how the voting goes here, I'll decide.

Personally, I would actually prefer a slightly more involved reporting process, such as something that gives us the option of explaining why we're reporting a post if it's not obvious. For example, a comment which may only be unpleasant on its own can be abusive if the commenter has been following the same user around and saying it repeatedly.

If I may make a suggestion, would it be possible to make some clearer community guidelines? Right now, it's really hard to tell whether or not to report things (and whether to expect a response if we do). I think it's very important for people to feel safe to share on IIN, but that can be difficult when we don't really know what the rules are or when we can expect support. It seems like there are users who are regularly abusive but don't face any sort of consequences for it, and we're losing good people because of it.

        "following the user around"

I've had a couple of stalkers do this to me. Like that "robbie" whatshisname guy. He would go through my profile to all of the stories I've ever made or commented on and then comment on my comments. It seemed harmless enough, but it was REALLY annoying after a while when he wouldn't quit.

Unfortunately I have encountered the same problem.

I've done this too in the past and have tended to email TheManagement to say that I didn't mean it. I guess having an "Are you sure?" would save him the time of reading the email, so it'd be useful for him too.

I think I have seen the message pop up before, but I'm not sure. If not, I do think that would be a great idea. It would also be a good idea for people to have to state exactly why they are reporting a user's comment(s).
