Should you and your dog share a bed?

I have a cute little Lasa Apsa and He sleeps w/ ,me in my bed at night but usually on the foot of the bed.My boyfriend complains that it is strange so I got him a little bed. He still jumps into my bed at night. He doesnt like 'his' bed. Is this normal??

Totally normal. My cousin's dog used to love sleeping in my cousin's bed. Her cat that thinks it's a dog loves to sleep in my
bed when I stay the night. Many dogs I've known tend to think of their humans as part of the pack and because of this they like to stay with their human.

I have 5 cats and 2 dogs. I sleep with an assortment every night. They're all indoor kept and clean, sooo... As long as your animals are clean, have all their shots and are parasite free, there should be no problem.

My little doggie sleep on my bed (i sleep on hers really). Its natural for a dog to want to as they are pack animals and don't like to be alone. It also seems to be the same for people. It appears that the only people who think its not right are weirdo germ phobic losers who will never experience the joy of cuddling a little doggle.

It's totaly normal! I sleep with my dog, and a LOT of people do. Brian sleeps at the foot of peters bed in family guy. It's a common thing.

    • Murder is a "common" thing, too, but that doesn't make it right.

I sleep with FOUR dogs; no kidding. Two chihuahuas, one mutt, and a pekingese. They're social animals, and they love to always be in the company of the ones they love. It's only natural for them to sleep with their masters. When you think about it, how natural is it to sleep alone? Back in the cave man days, that was very abnormal. People slept in groups for the safety it provided. When they domesticated dogs, they slept with them, too. Especially since they made wonderful guardians.

You need to decide which you want, the dog or the boyfriend. Cause if you don't keep the dog off of the bed, you're not going to have a boyfriend.

I disagree with some of the comments posted. I have a small Papillon dog and they are companions, he feels he needs to guard someone at night, so he'll scratch on one of the doors so he can sleep next to someone. Now, he's about 1 ft long, he doesn't take any space up at all.

Not that he's actually doing anything but he cleans himself every night before going to bed, i think it's hilarious he hates wet grounds, and dirt. They are very elegant dogs, if you look it up on Wiki.

My point is, a dog is a 'mans best friend' and if you have room on the bed & a clean dog, I think it's great. Dogs are intelligent, they can tell a clear difference between a hard floor and a nice cozy couch or bed. Dogs aren't too fond of the ground everyday!
But i have seen dogs that actually do like sleeping on the floor by choice, just becuase it's their natural instinct.

Overall, people need to stop acting so high maintenance. We as people are animals ourselves, we are just the alpha because of our brain capacity and technological advances.

No dog feels like it HAS to guard someone. Your dog is just spoiled rotten and that's your fault. There's no doubt who the alpha dog is in your house! It's the dog!

Dogs are not intelligent, they just want to be fed and comfortable, that's all, and they don't care who provides that comfort, you or the next person. Like any animal, they will take as many liberties as they are allowed.

All you folks who spoil your dogs think about this. If something happens to you, nobody else is going to want your spoiled rotten animal and it will get put down as soon as it gets to the shelter!

What is your problem? Dogs are smart. Why do you think they can do tricks. Just beCause they can't talk does not mean anything.

Well, you can either provide a more comfortable bed or just try to live with it. My friend has a cat who loves sleeping on his tummy. It's pretty nice and soft apparently.

You just need to be careful on the hygiene side of things though. They carry dirt and dust and they leave hair all over the place. As long as you clean the guy up regularly, it's perfectly fine.

      That is so not normal!
An animal isn't meant to sleep with a human!
Thats what dog beds are for so the dog has its own place to sleep.

I would have to respectfully disagree. I live big dogs more than small dogs.

Yeah My German Shepherd started sleeping at the foot of my bed too.
Then one night I rolled over and her head was on my pillow and she was staring at me.
I was kinda freaked out by it so I'll rolled over the other way...
She put all 4's on my back, and shoved me off the bed.
I sleept on the couch that night. >.<

Its normal for your dog to want to sleep with you, and its normal for you to want to sleep with her.
But if it becomes a problem, have her sleep in another room.
(Or your bf can sleep in another room) haha
