Sleeping with eyes partially open

Before I go to bed, I try to battle myself into falling asleep with them closed. Then the next morning, I wake up with blurry vision, red eyes, and a little painful. Anyone else have this sort of problem? How have you coped with this?

Is it normal to sleep with one of your eyes partially open? I'm guessing I subconsciously don't want to miss anything so I keep one eye open a bit.

  • My little brother sleeps with his eyes partially open for some reason, so I am with Shiroyasha. I think it is normal. Your poor eyeballs though, that sounds painful and disadvantageous. I sleep on my belly so my face is mushed against a pillow or something which more or less forces my eyes closed.

    • I thought about doing something similar, such as sleeping with a pillow over my eyes(maybe helps force to close my eyes). Also thought maybe getting eye goggles for the purpose of protecting me while I do that?

My little brother always sleeps with his eyes open... it is creepy. But I would say that it is quite normal.

It could mean that you don't feel entirely safe in your surroundings.

Sleep with one eye open, clutching your pillow tight.

Or...the muscles in your eyelids aren't working properly.

It doesn't have to have a deeper meaning.

    • That would make sense. Sometimes it's as if I don't notice when they are partially open...
