Smartphone in washing machine? how screwed am i?

Hello I'm a big idiot. Even though I'm used to owning smart phones I made the mistake only an unbelievable basic person could ever do. I accidentally put my phone in the washing machine (for a 40 minute cycle)

Please contain your laughter. As you could get the phone did not work after the cycle. Like a fool, I'm still hopeful. My phone had a rubber guard so I think that protected it from jostling around. I took apart all the pieces and I'm going to let them dry tonight, then put them back together in the morning and pray it charges.

If it wasn't obvious I'm really angry at myself. Any advice even if it's a little could REALLY cheer me up!

Why didn't you just toss it in the dryer?

I did that. Try putting it in a sealed bag with some rice. Apparently the rice absorbs the moisture. I didn't even attempt to salvage mine. I wish I had, now. I lost some irreplaceable photos :(

    Good luck!

Everyone makes mistakes. Do you have a protection plan on it?

I'm glad it worked out but what are you going to do about lost data? What I mean by that is your photos and things like your contacts.

  • Put it in rice. It takes some time..week or two.

Though..it sounds like u turned it on? If so..the odds of it working again are slim. For future reference, put it in rice for a week or two before even attepting to turn it on. If moisture crosses the circuts, it can cook them.

Take out the battery and put it in a bag of rice. Leave it in there for a few days to a week (not just overnight). Don't try to turn it on.

But if you already tried to turn it on and it didn't work, then chances are slim that you can fix it.

I once kept my phone in my top pocket and I lean forward to flush the toilet and the damn thing fell into the toilet. Luckily I used so much toilet paper, it landed on top a thick layer of toilet paper, giving me enough time to fish it out before it sunk into the water.

  • So you picked up the phone and mistook a washing machine for a place to put it?

    It's a washing machine.

My mom's IPhone 4.S was fan over by an entire tractor...in the mud...on a rainy day. Suprisingly it still works. Sadly the protective screen is cracked, you can't turn wifi on, and she can't add new numbers.

I never actually put something in washing machine but I once dropped my iPod into bowl full of water. I just put it in rice and it still works even now. But then again washing machine is different from bowl of water and I don't know how much can smartphones handle to not break.

Might still work, might not. Depends on the phone.
The newer ones aren't that durable, so you shouldn't have too much hope.
