Smoking cigarettes, a deal breaker?

Say you like a person or are talking to a person you find attractive and you find out they smoke cigarettes. Would that be a deal breaker for you or..?

I smoke too, so.. 12
I think I would distance myself. 27
I would try to help them quit 14
I would express my distaste for it but it wouldnt hurt our relationshp 12
Not a big deal. 13
Help us keep this site organized and clean. Thanks!

I always thought it was. Then I met someonewho did and I can get past it. I'd still prefer he quit, but I know it's not so straightforward.

Quitting smoking was one of the best things I ever did. I smoked a lot for over 20 years. What a moron! I always knew it wasn't a pleasant smell but now, ugh, it's worse than I ever imagined. Not sure if it would be a deal breaker or not, but I wouldn't hang around while whoever was puffin their grits. I don't want that odor on me ever again.

Almost 15 months smoke free. Woooo!!!!! High fives all around!

Reminds me of this guy I started talking to on my first week at uni thought he was nice until he pulled out a pack. We just friends now.
I dont judge smokers its definitely their choice but Ive seen the side effects/long term illnesses first hand way too many times. A definite deal breaker.

    I'm asthmatic, so it's a deal-breaker.

My grandma smokes and it has taken a toll on her. I love her so it hurts seeing her this way. It's not a deal breaker but I would want to help them quit. I wouldn't want to another person I love to go through what she is.

    • Thats very admirable of you. speaking personally, i dont think hardly anyone who smokes likes the fact that they do. Some people just need a good reason to quit, not buy another pack or they'll just keep going.

Chain smoker is a definite no. If they only do it socially ok... Though I'd prefer not at all.

It's not a nice habit but I would never let it come between me and someone I loved.

It depends on the person and how well they care for themselves after choking one down. I dated a gal yrs ago, she smoked, but she also rolled window down in car, had gum and mints. I couldnt even tell except I knew she smoked. Damn I do miss her. (Cindy and she works at Lawrence Livermore in Cali.)

I smoked but quit years ago. Now I get disgusted when I smell it on someone. People who smoke really don't understand just how much they stink because their sense of smell is diminished and they just become accustomed to the odor.
No, I would not date a smoker.

You should quit...you'll live long and with less health problems.

Not really a deal breaker but probably wouldn't get serious with someone who smoked. However here's a question for everyone, what about if they smoked an ecig? I don't do cigs but I kinda like ecigs even though they probably aren't very healthy either.

Me too. I quit (again) about 9 months ago. But I tried to bum one off my husband and he wouldn't give me one. That gave him the motivation to quit.

The smell of cigarettes makes me nauceous and sometimes it makes me vomit, so yes, it's a deal breaker.
