I'm a minority snooker voter because,,,
I had a mate with a quarter-size slate table. We played a 'tourney', first to 500 frames,, started it in '78 and finished in '96. We'd make 50+ breaks regularly,, and the odd 100. It's a GREAT game that anyone can play on a small table. On a full table, it's HARD though. In the 100 or so frames I played only once did I make a break over 30 and rarely even got into the teens.
YEARS ago (pub) pool was a good game. I can understand why they changes the rules from sticking pockets on the black to nominating a pocket each turn,,, but then they got GREEDY and kept changing the rules to speed the game up. Now, if you're any good, the sole 'tactic' is to enforce a foul whereupon you can usually clear the table.
OLD pool was good but they ruined it so even flailing around ineptly on a big snooker table is more fun. If you can get a well-made, solid quarter-sized table, it's a zillion times better.
I used to have a snooker table in my house and I played it all the time, I used to go and watch it quite a lot as well but I got bored of it. I then joined a couple of pool teams and with one of them we won the local league, I only play pool now when I'm out drinking and I still love it.
Snooker's great to watch on TV so long as you understand the tactics behind it, and it's fun to play as well. I've played pool too, and I thought it was great but I like snooker more. I really enjoy cue sports thoughts, but I grew up on snooker so I'm biased :P
I've only ever played snooker once in the middle east and didn't care for it. Too much precision needed for a clown like me. Lots of close misses and too much bridge play.
I guess I like the actual game of snooker but don't care for the 5 acres of snooker table.
I grew up playing bar 8-ball with small tables and big pockets (big pockets drop more balls and make more money for the bar owner). If you get in a jam you can smash the mess and have a good chance of dropping something .
Pool is pretty unpopular in the US these days. If you can find a decent table, you still can't find any decent players.
I guess I should take up beer pong.
