Sometimes i find myself copying other people

theres a chord progression in the songs "psychotic girl" by the black keys and "just" by radiohead. two amazing songs. i was trying to write a song and used it, not realizing why it sounded so familiar. once it hit me i felt really connected to the musicians who wrote those songs. i felt like the three of us (and i'm sure many others) had stumbled on that chord progression the same way. I've done it with other songs too and have felt the same way. is it my subconcious that makes me use these chords because i heard it in my favorite song, or do me and the artist both have similar playing stlye and taste? is it really egotistical for me to believe it's the latter?

Subconsciousness it happens to me all the time, just practice being original and it wont be a problem whenever you want to write a song.

Totally normal, in order to be a great musician i personally believe that you must emulate your favorite artists and then all those influences come together and your own creations will start to emerge. There's a quote by an artist name Peter Mulvey that I like:

I think all you do as an artist is you hear things that you think are cool, and you go out and you try to do them and you fail. And that failure produces your own art-hallelujah.

    lol true...

dear GOD, i'm a loser.. sorry, that happens sometimes.. what I mean is: STOP COPYING PEOPLE because it will never become recognized as an art-form or an original act and quite frankly, it's distracting everyone from where the real talent is hiding.

        hmmm, no.
Almost every musician will do this, it's not possible to avoid it.
