Sports are a waste of time

People spend millions of dollars and countless hours on watching and playing sports. What's the appeal? They don't actually do any good in the world and often cause more conflict than anything. I think adults who are obsessed with sports never grew up. It's fine for little kids but I think it's silly and juvenile for anyone over 14 to be chasing balls or wearing team logos and yelling at each other. Football is just dumb for any age.

I would hate to work with you on any group endeavor. You don't seem to understand what it's like to be part of a team.

Why would anybody want to watch people who have worked thousands of hours developing skills and pushing the limits of what the human body can achieve , good point .

I was thinking more about the Olympics themselves being the most expensive sporting event having bankrupted entire cities

It's normal if you have better things to do with your time than live vicariously through other people. It's childish, not that there's something necessarily wrong with enjoying some childish things here and there - but it's pretty much pointless empty voyeurism.

Playing sports is fun though. Why someone would want to watch someone else play them is beyond me. I like reading books, not watching other people read books.

You were probably never really good at sports.
I can write a million word essay about how you are wrong and I am right..but I don't wanna.

Please....enlighten us. I came on here to find out why I am so "abnormal" for not desiring what the whole world seems to be all horned up over. All that knuckle bumping, high-fiving and hype, I just don't get it. Sitting for hours watching sports and listening to all the horns and noisemakers. I'd rather do anything than that. I had even hoped I would one day meet a man that wasn't a football or sport nut but finally gave up on that idea thinking that I am the only person in the world that doesn't get it. Sadly, the man I decided to marry got drunk between the ceremony and supper while watching football LOL. I give up.

It's great to see from this site that there are other abnormals out there LOL. Thanks, I don't feel so all alone now.

There are countless benefits to sports for spectators and athletes alike. You have no idea what you're talking about.

Well professionals often get paid millions of dollars to do so. While you can certainly debate if that makes any sence, if someone wants to pay me that kind of money to wear a team logo and chase a ball around, sign me up!

For the average person though it is a hobby or a past time. It is no more or less a valid one than playing video games, listening to music, or reading about the issues of strangers on is it normal. As least with sports, there is often a physical aspect that can be healthy which the other things I mentioned don't have.

My sport allows me to travel the world for free, using the wind instead of burning fossil fuels, yet sleep in my own bed every night. I don't have to pay anyone to fly me anywhere, go through security or even worry about terrorists hijacking or blowing up my transportation.
I can make a living doing my sport and I can even catch my dinner, when I am doing my sport.
How is my sport a waste of time or dumb?

Sailing is not a sport? Really? Then why is it in the Olympics? Why are there competitions world wide?
Are you illiterate or just stupid?

I hope when I die that my years living in desert count as time served towards my time in purgatory.
