Step daughter cries when given xmas gift

So, my step daughter is 14 and when opening her presents on Christmas Day she started crying out of being overwhelmed. Is this normal, I don’t think it is

That's what I'm thinking! Also I've seem people who aren't underprivileged cry for joy, and in gratitude when they receive a really special present like a puppy, or a car... something very precious that the person really wanted, and wasn't expecting to get.

Were you ever a fourteen-year-old girl?

I suspect not, and I also suspect it's been quite a while since you were fourteen. So, it's not surprising that you were bewildered by this response.

It's probably hormonal to at least some extent, but just be glad that she didn't shriek that she hated the gift, hated you and ran off to her room to rage-post on TikTok and every other social media account she has for the rest of the day.

Leave her alone, and don't try to get her to explain - because she probably hasn't a clue why she did it either.

My parents bought toys for all my cousins (8 of them) but asked for money from my uncles and aunts and bought me school clothes.

    14. It's probably just hormones and puberty.

Was your stepdaughter very underprivileged before you married her mother/father? It sounds to me like the child is very grateful, she is crying for joy!

    Depends how dramatic it was.

I think she does it because she's happy maybe she is a bit shy when she doesn't answer.

    That sounds painfully annoying.

Materialistic, soulless people often get emotional when receiving gifts. For that brief moment, she feels alive. This person will grow up to be miserable.
