T-shirt rubber

I have been rubbing old t-shirts since I was a toddler. They have to be old with little balls on them. The older the better. I used to go up to my father and just start rubbing my lips back and forth on his shirt or between my thumb and fingers. When asked what I was doing I said I was rubbing flowers! My parents immediately took me to the doctor for it and the doctor advised them I would grow out of it. 32 years later I still find myself rubbing shirts for comfort. It's like sucking a thumb because my tongue does what a child would do as if they were sucking their thumb. So weird. I wish I could stop but I can't. Is this normal?

i think this is kinda normal. i've heard of people with anxiety issues rubbing blankets, in my case, it's the silky edges on blankets. my mother did it too, and when i was a kid (like 3, 4) i'd suck on the corner of the silk and then wave it in the air to make it cold, and then rub it through the cracks of my fingers. can't even make that up. i also like to rub the seams of clothes but only if i have dry or cracked skin on my fingers it's so weird but it makes a noise and feels good!

    Not even remotely normal.
