Teen can’t use cutlery

So my step daughter is 14 and she can’t hold a knife and fork normally. She holds her fork like she’s stabbing her food lollies a killer in a movie would and she can’t cut with a knife! Iv know her since she was 9 and anytime Iv tried to correct her it’s turned into a blazing family argument because of her tantrums and argumentative attitude. is it normal for a 14 year old to not know how to use cutlery?

Just leave her to eat her food. If you make an issue you out of it then she will fight against you. It's not worth the hassle.

She could be on the autism spectrum.
I've never held a fork and knife or a pen the way you're supposed to.

Autistic people sometimes have coordination issues... I’m autistic and have had trouble with cutlery. I couldn’t tie my shoes until I was around 13.

Is she learning disabled, does she have a problem with the muscle in her hands?

    I’ve seen it before.

It seems linked to some kind of laziness but regardless they legitimately can’t use them. It’s probably more incredible they still remember to breath.

Yikes, I've never seen that. That would be annoying.

Give her time to learn, she'll eventually get there.

Sounds weird. Tell her to hold it more like a pencil. I assume she can write.

At this point (and this will sound weird) I would do nothing. You have done what you can, so step back. Do you really think another blazing argument is going to help the situation? As she gets older she will start to feel embarrassed of her inability to use cutlery and she will learn in her own time. I understand that you’re frustrated but screaming at her is not helping her. She will get there eventually.

Sounds like a typical stroppy teenage girl. She probably knows perfectly well how to use a knife and fork but wants to have her rebellious little tantrum. Especially the fact you are not her mother but you are trying to take on a motherly role. I would suggest leave her to it.
