A psychiatrist said i would probably develop a bipolar disorder. I have taken lots of meds, and the ones that really make me feel good are the anti-psychotics, is it related to a schizofrenia or bipolar disorder? Can you tell me more so i can be sure i have, i dont have it, or i wil have it?
Nobody can diagnose you on the internet. Bipolar disorder is the same thing as manic depression, which means you have both episodes of depression and mania. Episodes typically last a few days or longer unlike normal bad moods that come and go.
Yes the depression is obviously what it means, depressed feeling sad, sometimes even suicidal.
Manic is feeling very happy very talkative but over the top. Sometimes mixed with delusions. Examples: Thinking you're someone your not. thinking you have super powers or something like that. Or it could be something small like "KNOWING" you will win the lottery so you spend all your rent money on lottery tickets. etc.
Why don't you ask your therapist about it? I'm sure they can give you more information.
How can a professional say you will probably "develop" bipolar disorder? I don't get that. That makes no sense to me. Your doctor is a schmuck if s/he says that. If you are currently taking these medications and you do NOT have a current diagnosis of either Bipolar or Schizophrenia then WHY are you taking them? You should NEVER take this medication unless you currently have one of those diagnoses. (In rare instances a person may have Asperger Syndrome and your doctor may want you to take antipsychotics for Aspergers Syndrome).
If your doctor didn't INFORM YOU that you currently have Bipolar Disorder and didn't Inform you that you currently have Schizophrenia then you need to get your big girl or big boy pants on and go BACK to that doctor and ask him or her if you CURRENTLY have one of these two.
We can not diagnose you. No one can diagnose you through the internet let alone a licensed professional. You CAN however just google the symptoms of Bipolar Disorder and see if you have some of the symptoms, but just because you have some symptoms doesn't mean you have the diagnosis. I don't understand why you'd be taking those drugs if you don't have the diagnosis now.
And the antipsychotics are not supposed to make you "feel good". They are used as tranquilizers to keep people calm and sometimes they knock people out and people sleep all day on them. That's why doctors like them. To keep people asleep so they don't cause trouble. These medications are the strongest meds one can take and they affect parts of the brain that is useful for critical thinking.
If you currently take these medications you need to talk to your doctor about them and ask why you are taking them now. If you <<<used to>>> take these medications and your doctor said you needed them, you need to find out why your doctor suggested you taking them in the first place.
That's pretty much what I was going to say, so you saved me the trouble and said it better than I could have.
Apart from IIN I'm on two medical forums and it absolutely amazes me how many people just do what the doctor tells them and don't even check out the medications on the manufacturers' websites. I just don't get it, if I'm putting a drug in my body I want some idea of what it's for and if there are any negative effects. Note I don't call them "side" effects because they're not off to the side, that has to be a term made up by pharmaceutical companies to disguise the fact that "side" effects are in fact unwanted negative effects
First off, listen to what sandee said earlier on the forum and ask your doctor about it, but if you're curious about the disorder, I can tell you about it.
Bipolar disorder is characterized by the swinging between extremes it causes. People experience periods of depression and mania which can last for days or weeks, and crash in between. In the lesser-known manic extremes, people have illusions of grandeur and often make poor descisions, thinking they could accomplish things they obviously couldn't. (For example, "I know this sounds stupid but I think I could fly if I tried" or "I don't run very often but I'm super pumped to go on this mega-marathon in a couple days")
