Did you really need to ask this question?

I mean... Lots of people drink coffee. And it makes sense that if you drink enough coffee you become addicted to caffeine.

But it's not normal to actually be addicted to caffeine - especially not to the extent that you're violently sick without 2 pints of it a day.

You have an addiction to a drug, and you clearly need to ween yourself off it, or seek the help of a doctor.

    Duh.

    • Duh????? For your information i have never touched a drug in my life! yes i did have to ask this question as i wanted other peoples opinions/experiences with coffee. I know i am addicted to the stuff & now slowly weaning myself off. If i was addicted to DRUGS my question would have been drugs NOT coffee DUHHHHHHHHHHH

        Caffeine is a drug.

Addiction to caffeine is a drug addiction.

Being addicted to a drug isn't normal, in so much as most people aren't addicted to a drug.

This website is for people asking if something is normal or not - it's strange that you felt you had to ask this question, because I would think it obviously not normal.

        Duh.

Strange the only thing i got was a headache. I kinda had to stop drinking the stuff since im pregnant now. I suggest weening yourself off of it. 2 pints first thing in the morning seems a little excessive.

"2 pints"?! Whoa! That would be enough to give me the runs, a heart attack, severe pain, dehydration all at the same time! Christ! Cut back and try what I suggested in my previous comment.

It really isn't all that, taste, preparation and energy wise. What I did was switch to coffee alternatives. Gauyusa, Yerba Mate, and Gaurana - all members of the Holly genus. I highly recommend that you try and switch to them.

I think you should see a doctor about this, high intakes of caffeine can increase your risk of having a heart attack and seeing as your body and mind is addicted to high doses of caffeine then you probably need help

Normal to be addicted yes however it is not normal to be violently sick if you don't have your fix. I suggest to try ween yourself off it slowly as coffee is a stimulant thus it is classed as a drug. Your body is obviously not coping with it prob due to too make excessive adrenaline coursing through your body from the coffee. Coffee is yum but it's poison so not a good idea to start it in the first place. I can't drink coffee as it used to always cause my stomach to go into terrible pain fall spasms.

Yeah coffee can be very addicting. I suggest you see a doctor if symptoms continue.

I remember my uncle used to be a massive coffee and coke (Coca Cola) addict and he used to be the same way. My mums a doctor and she was treating him a few years ago when he got bird flu and she said it was like getting an addict off heroine. She said he went through a week of cramps, headaches, fever and the sweats but he was alright after that and hardly touches it now.

For starters, I didn't read the post before I voted, and I don't actually think it's normal. It's fine to like coffee and enjoy a cup every morning (and sometimes even in the evening--my grandparents drink two cups a day), but not to this extent. Caffeine has been called a legal drug (a type of drug like heroin or cocaine, NOT a good type of drug) and it could have serious long-term effects on you and your body, even your mind.
