That throwing away food bothers the fuck outa me?

I don't mean if it's just gone bad and you can't eat it, hate it when families prepare large meals for lunch or dinner then let the fuckin food just sit around until it's gone bad and the next day throw it away.Come the fuck on,you can afford to live in a house with a kitchen but you can't invest some spare money in tupaware containers so that you can eat it later? There is a shortage of food in some parts of the world and here you are, just throwin out macaroni and porchops, hot dogs and meatloaf and shit,I don't even eat those things but it makes me angry.

What used to drive me crazy was working in a sandwich shop in the city and all the food we would simply throw out at the end of the day if it didn't sell. There were homeless starving on the street outside but we couldn't give the food to them for bullshit legal reasons.

I know so many people who throw tons of food away and if I witness it, I'm like no no no! I'll take it! People who know me well enough always give me their leftovers now. I will also take canned or wrapped food out of the garbage, and I eat things well beyond their expiration dates.

It happened gradually over the years. I used to not care or maybe just didn't pay attention to how much people wasted. It really started to bother me at some point so I made some changes to my habits. I'm also on the very low end of the income spectrum so I'm happy to take what I can get. A birds gotta eat! I do draw the line with certain foods. It's just not worth the risk.

I routinely eat food that has gone past the "expiration date". Because I know in a capitalist economy, which America still is (sort of) the idea is to make money, as much money as possible, as fast as possible. So selling food with an expiration date frightens the consumer into getting rid of it and buying more. Technology companies use the same concept on most of our electronic devices (iphones, tablets, etc) there is a reason after 8 months the equipment is noticeably slower, sluggish, etc. This motivates the consumer to go buy the newest one.

Now I make sure to physically inspect the food before eating it and if it has noticeable mold or other features which suggest it would make one sick by eating it than I discard it.

Normal. I don't like to waste food either. I like to store leftovers and have them for the next day. They usually taste better the next day since all the flavors got to "marinate". People have actually thought that it was weird that I eat leftovers and thought that re-heating stored food was gross. I don't get why. lol

I used to know of people (somewhat distant relatives) who would throw huge amounts of food out just to show off that they could afford to.

You know, I didn't realize how much people do this but it's true. I know a lot of adults who throw everything away cause they don't " do leftovers". It especially pisses me of if they are getting food stamps.
