We often talk about how bad the Christian religion is but as I get older I start realising that the religion created a structure for society that we needed in the past. It set down rules. Such as have one wife (cuts down on STDs), strong family values (helps raise better kids, and improve birthrates), do not lie, do not steal, dont kill, obey the law. Most of the problems we have had up until this point is when we disobeyed the religion.

As we have moved away from that structure we have become a society that just makes up the rules as we go. There's nothing stopping people tomorrow as walking around identifying as batman, or being trans-racial, trans-species, or whatever other form of degeneracy they please. You can cut off a childs penis now and give him hormones. A man can now breastfeed. Anything can now be normalized because we have moved away from the bible. Because there is no structure anymore.

    I understand your point of view but norms evolve because society does. It is not static.
    While I agree that this whole thing of identifying to anything should be put to an end and should never be normalised there are lot of things that were written in the bible that I am glad have been abolished.

    Interesting thought that it might have helped society at the time, that it might have been necessary. I don't think so though. The morals of religion came about from our own natural human morals, the people of the past imprinted their own morals onto their gods. And the rules set forth in the Bible could have been replaced with laws and just promoting a good general moral code for people to live by. And people were killing and stealing back then even with a wider belief in religion, they were doing all that much more so than today. So religion doesn't solve that, at least not as much as a modern society where secularism is permitted and more widespread. And of course, people at the time weren't as enlightened as we are nowadays. So there's a lot of evil outdated morals in the Bible that have no place in the modern world.
