To be clear, I am not a Trumper, and I do not condone the actions of the people on January 6th.
However, I don't think that the rioters should've gone to jail. The worst thing they probably did was vandalism. Maybe I'm being to lenient, but I think that jail is kind of harsh.
Are you crazy? They killed 1 officer, injured several others, some permanently and defiled the seat of our national government, urinating and defecating inside. They also conspired to disrupt a congressional proceeding. They should be punished to the max.

Vandalism is an offense that you can be jailed for. They were grown-ass adults who knew full well what the risks were, so I have no sympathy for them. As for anyone who calls it an "inSURrECtIOn!", they're all dumbasses. A small group of asshurt losers who threw a tantrum because they couldn't accept their God-Emperor lost is far less of an attempt to overturn an election than 4 fucking years of "tHE pRESidENt Is a RUSsIAN NAAAAAZIIIIIIIIII!!!!!!!" and the rest of the bullshit circus they put on any time you turned on the TV or got on the internet

People really underplay that event. The rioters set up a gallows for Pence outside the building, injured several officers, and swarmed inside the building in a blatant attempt to harass, and likely harm, congressmen. The only reason nothing too extreme happened there is because the place was evacuated, yet every time someone talks about it, they say "nothing happened, therefore it's not a big deal."
Riots take place in a lot of places, some are more destructive than others, but most of them don't take place at the fucking capitol building. It's a direct attack on a branch of the US government. Just because it wasn't lit on fire doesn't mean we can just forget it and pretend it didn't happen. You want to have a pretend-insurrection and pal around with your Trump-buddies, you don't do it inside a federal office. It's not just "vandalism."
Read up on the actual events of that day before posting about it, seriously. People talk about this as if a line of average citizens calmly walked single-file into the building, politely knocked on a few doors, and then were gently escorted out.
And if you're one of the people comparing this to "other riots"? Stop. If you want to prosecute all rioters, then do it! Fight for it! You don't get to just pick and choose which rioters get off with a misdemeanor based on how you FEEL about it. What, smashing the windows of the capitol building shouldn't be taken as seriously as smashing someone's car? Put them both in jail!

Like I said before compared with the riots of the season the Jan 6 riots were TAME. But since it was done on federal land its suddenly something that normal people should be cheering for executing those rioters.
It was a really bad riot. For 2008. For 2020? Hell doesnt make the top 10 in most damaging financially.

Our goverment does not function like that where you can contest the election by stopping the vote.

And like I said before, you prosecute all of them. Every violent rioter. Left or right doesn't matter. The fact is, they broke the law. They were also there for a specific reason that we shouldn't just let slide unless we want it to happen again.
I never said they should be executed, I said they should be thrown in jail. If you get stuck in our slow-as-snails law system because you were stupid enough to vandalize the fucking capitol building over Donald Trump, that's your own fault and I have no sympathy. I don't care if something worse happened somewhere else, it doesn't excuse this.
Well if one party says to jail them all while the other one only let's their buddies out for free. What does it look like to the rest of us?
Should I agree that some prisoners be held in solitary confinement for months because they attended the riot. I perfer you just slap them with a fine for damages.
Are you a tough-on-crime warrior? I clearly am not. Like I said, I'm not a Trumper, and I certainly did not participate in this event.
However, I detest fascism, and I don't feel that every misbehavior should result in being incarcerated.
We're not talking about a simple misbehavior, we're talking about a riot at the capitol building. It's a federal office building, not a Walmart or your friend's house. Even then, if it was a peaceful protest, I would agree with you. It wasn't.
I've also never really considered myself to be "tough on crime." Especially on this, since I don't think a fine should be the default response to what happened, particularly for the reason it happened.

I dont see the january 6th as anything more than a pretty tame riot truth be told. WAY more collateral damages were going on under the guise of BLM and saint angel who was doing a speedball George floyd.
People who did crimes should still go to prison and get fines. Just not years of solitary confinement, terrorism charges and swat busting down their door. And I'm talking crimes like breaking windows and at worst punching a cop (the cop who died it was a heart condition)

Since there are still people who are being held without bail or even charges, they are WAY abusing these protesters. Now that we are learning more, we are discovering it was an antifa and big govt set-up. The only one shot was a short, unarmed female US Air Force Veteran and they shot her in the face.
Comparing the harsh treatments these protesters are still getting and the super soft handling past violent rioters were treated the double standards are really obvious and horrible. The have made a lot of families of the peaceful protesters jobless and homeless.
It's treason, man, there is no crime that deserves more punishment. And yes, the same goes for blm and the other loony left organisations.
