The most fundamental question of all

Logic can be a tricky subject. That said, knowing the best question to ask is also tricky. To these observations, I invite you to consider the following question.

Is there life as advanced as us or even more advanced than us elsewhere in the universe?

What happens when we die? Where do we go? Do we need to be alive to think? Or do our spirits keep living even though our bodies are dead? Or is there just nothingness?

    • People resuscitated with defibrillators talk about their spirit moving thru a tunnel. You may be able to find more information on Google.

  • Yes. After considering your comment for a minute, my intended purpose was to solicit a collection of very fundamental questions. Anyone could rank these questions from most to least fundamental to raise interesting implications, or whatever.

The question you have posed, “ Would having a designed purpose be better than being at the helm of our existence?” is impressively fundamental. I like it because, among other things, it suggests the origin of the entire physical universe could be kind of less significant than the abiogenesis of life, or the wakening of consciousness.

Thank you for the quality response. I’m giving you a thumb bump.

What will become of the world in the next 50 years?

    Comment Hidden ( show )
      -
    • Hmmmm. we already know what will become of it in a billion years. Almost all planning for the future is impacted by 50 year predictions, so your time range sounds reasonably fundamental.

I think the post was made to be vague. Different people have different perspectives on the "goal" of life.

      • This comment is only acceptable if you phrase it like this, “What is the goal of life?”

You arent gonna get a lot of compliance like that. You asked a basic question with a variety of ways that it can be answered. I'll illustrate my points however I please as the question in of itself was in my perspective vague. (I voted other) so I'm just explaining my 2 cents.

The vagueness feels like a trap. I don't trust these questions because they feel leading. What kind of answer are they truly seeking? (Rhetorical)

This is IIN. Lil thought experiments like this are fun. Going deep into your collective understanding and wisdom and giving an answer for others to enjoy and ponder.

Not all vague questions are a trap. More of a question within a question, the answer being totally subjective.

Evolutionarily you are here to survive and reproduce.

That's why I believe farmed animals and plants are successful vs their wild varieties. They dont need to survive on their own, hell they dont even need to walk. Be tasty and easily corralled and boom you become an all star in numbers and spreading your genes just so happens that those genes are to make them tastier/easier to manage.

    • howaminotmyself

But they aren't breeding for survival, just to exist. Amd they arent really concerned about passing on their genes like most form of life. We intervene. Survival isn't part of the equation in farming. It only exists as long as we want it to, so that's all it needs

      • LloydAsher

You exist. I exsist. I took the question as a context to why we are created. Since the dawn of life it's to create more of yourself. Sure it's not implicitly told to you. But it sure as hell acts on you. Being horny isnt an abstract state of mind. It's you as an organism trying to spread more of you.

Survival of the fittest still holds true. It's just that humans have found a way to change what's concidered "fittest" for our livestock it's those with traits to make them more manageable and if possible more efficent for our sustenance.

Sure bananas have to be cloned in order to be planted but they are way more successful on an individual basis than their way more fertile cousins. Have you seen what a natural banana looks like inside? 90% seeds 5% flesh 5% peel. Just enough flesh to make it worthwhile for a beast wandering around. But for humans? We can take the extra steps for what would be considered a downside for the survival of a plant species in the wild to becoming a wildly successful species within our cultivation fields.

          -
        • howaminotmyself

I didn't know that about bananas. I find plants very interesting, the way they want to survive and grow and spread, but only in certain conditions. But farming takes the end game out and if humans didn't interfere plants and animals would look different. Domestication is a strange experiment on this planet.

As for fundamental, my brain didn't immediately go to the why are we here question. I think its me, I just don't question it. I am here because I am. I am living a human existence to experience it. And then I will move on. I don't dwell. But I do garden. And I love watching my seeds sprout. I even allowed some volunteers to stay because they sprouted under a tarp where I was trying to kill all the seeds. These ones wanted to survive, so I will let that happen.

Had the same thing happen to some turnips that were planted a few years back, decided to switch crops but some determined turnips decided to make a late debut. They were delicious so the decision to wait until next year to plant new stuff was the good choice.

The same goes for watermelons. They used to have different sections inside, and were mostly rind. But they were cultivated and made better.

          • The two of you are already way off the topic. I suppose that the implication of what you are saying is that life will eventually fill all voids. That’s a nice answer, okay?

Now please get back on the topic and tell all of us what the most fundamental question is that you can ask.

            Thank you.

I never said life fills all voids. Good job reading more into what I said and proving my point that this is a trap question.

So I ask, the fundamental of what? Is this in regards to cooking? That would be what ingredients do you have available? Or maybe you want to know the fundamentals of coding? Perhaps you are curious of the fundamentals of heart surgery. Both of which are outside my wheelhouse so asking me about the fundamentals isn't very wise.

        • You need to learn how to follow directions. You may think your answer is eloquent enlightenment. When, in fact it is useless digression that is way off topic.

Please try again. We don’t want answers, we are looking for a fundamental question.

Asking a vague question and ONLY expecting questions? Need to fluff out a philosophy paper?

You come to IIN for answers. Questions are easy enough to come up with. Why? It is the simplest act of asking a question. Solving why with another question solves nothing besides wasting both of our time. You essentially asked "universe why" and requested a non answer.

              -
            • The answer IS a question. Reread the post. The question it poses simply asks for a question. If you are trying to prove that a question of this nature contradicts itself or cannot exist, you are doing a TERRIBLE job.

I do not claim to know if there is a most fundamental question. But, up to this point, everything you have said is worthless digression. Please stay on the topic.
