I dont understand why prisoners shouldn't have work for a living and pay to be fed, clothed and sheltered, instead of it being the governments and tax payers responsibility.
Same, work or starve (unless you are physically & mentally incapable of doing anything).
I don't know which prison system you're referring to but I know the American prison system uses prison labor and there are a lot of prisoners who work. In addition, they're not living in a paradise, not saying they deserve to either.
But when I think of tax payers being exploited billionaires take the cake. You're much more likely to being a prisoner than a billionaire. Remember that. Even if you "follow the law".
The problem with that is that it would create an incentive for governments to have more prisoners
That would make a greater motivation to escape from prison.
Prison shouldnt be torture. Give them a tv and make all those prisoners couch potatoes.
