They're all just fucking with me

I can tell they're all just fucking with me from the way they act around me. They think I'm incompetent, and sometimes I am, but mostly it just seems that the universe is playing a practical joke on me. They say that I'm useful and an integral part of the organization's structure, but they infantilize me in subtle ways and I think they view me more as some kind of strange office pet that can usually be relied upon to do what's needed, but needs to be watched lest it piss itself. They do my job for me and act as if I don't even notice. They are seemingly kind and polite to my face, but I'm aware that they're just humoring me, like some kid who needs his macaroni art praised. I can't even take revenge by leaving, because I'm sure they'll find someone worth their while to replace me, someone who's outgoing, confident, interesting, and capable of doing a better job than me. If they keep doing what they're doing, I feel like I'm going to fade out of existence, and nobody will notice. Or maybe they'll celebrate, but that means they actually devote time to considering my person.

    • I've been reading the feud between him and Elon and it's funny as hell. Elon just made a statement about why he even has NDA on his cars and I think he's trying to make Bezos make a dumb move

I'm just going to ask you two questions. Could it be that you have a skewed perception of how they see you? What can you do to not be 'sometimes incompetent'?

    • I'm not op but I can empathize with them. A lot of my blunders are from years of isolation with cabin fever, as well as not having a proper upbringing. I'm working on things, but I'm still obviously a faux pas to anyone who can have a 5 minute recreational conversation without succumbing to an anxiety attack

I hope I didn't come across as unempathetic to OP because that's definitely not what I was going for. I just wanted them to think what could actually be done in their situation like you are doing in yours.

The question about other's perception I find important because it could really be a misconception stemming from the fear of being judged poorly by peers and then actually believing they do, even if they don't.

With the second question I intended to be more practical. If you stop to assess your own performance and figure out where or why you blundered and how this could (sometimes easily) be avoided.

You're a lovely faux pas! Elegantly gauche.
