This happened to my cat

My cat is 16 years old, he's the only cat I've ever had and I've had him since I was 4. A few weeks ago he got very sick, stopped eating and couldn't drink (he would look at every source of water and lick his mouth but make the saddest meow because he couldn't do anything else), he was covered in vomit and poop, and very cold. In a cat of his age it surely meant death. Sometimes I think he did die and come back to life. We took him to the hospital, my mom only paid for 3 days. after 2 days he was not doing any better, and she kept saying ''he's dying'' and we'd have to put him down if he wasn't miraculously better by the 3rd day (there were only a few hours left then). No one was very optimistic, not even the vet could give us any hope. He looked so sick near to death even on the 2nd day in hospital. I'm not religious but that night I said if there is anyone who can help me, I need a miracle, this is the only miracle I will need. it was to see my cat happy 1 last time, even if he was dying. the next morning he was so much better!! He was purring at the sight of us!! We got to take him home, and you could tell he was grateful. I never knew a cat could show thanks but he really did. I spent every moment i could with him, I thought he might be permanently altered, but a couple weeks later and he is 100% back to normal.

is it normal the vet made it sound like he was dying and there was nothing we could do, and that he would always be sick, yet now he is completely back to normal at the age of 16?? I am extremely grateful!! I love this cat so much

  • Your lucky to have a cat live that old. My first cat was born: 8/15/04 and sadly died of cancer (unknown to us), though we did noticed she stopped eating, but we were to late. She passed away on 11/25/08. My grandmother had to take me away for the dad, when we got home my dad had buried the poor cat.

I have a cat that either in her 70's or 80's in human years. I don't know how old she is in feline terms. I had her since I was about 3-4 and she's never had to be hospitalised, though she once developed parasites. O_0 I'm happy that your cat made.

I am very happy that you have a little more time with your cat. They can be great companions. I lost my cat recently so this made me a little sad. But I am grateful for all he gave me and he was grateful for the release from suffering. Cats can show thanks.

Aw, that's amazing! I'm glad your cat's feeling better. Who knows, he could very well live a few more years. Some cats live to be at least 20. My pets are all healthy, and I'm hoping they'll be with us for a long time.

Maybe your mum slipped the vet a 50 and they swapped it for a new but same looking cat.

I wonder if you made any promises in exchange for this miracle that you requested and if so what are they.

    • nothing, unless you mean it'll be something I;m not expecting. All I said is that it was the only miracle I'd ever need... hmm maybe I will need one again and it wont go so well. But I can't imagine ever needing one (My mom mention, what if she was in that position, wouldn't I ask a miracle for my own mom? but I have faith in modern medicine for humans is a lot better than for cats. no one seemed to care really when he was dying except my sister and i)

you need to even out this balance.

        kill someone.

I just meant how people sometimes ask for miracles and promise they'll be good or something if the miracle occurs.
I'm glad your cat is okay. I have a 6 year old cat myself since kittenhood and he's a member of the family now.

        • That's good :)
I was so thankful I do feel like I owe something. I went to the animal rescue center to socialise all the cats (they have at least 100 of them there!x) but it's fun too
