This ones for the computer experts.

I'm shopping for a laptop, I just want a cheap one for surfing and it has to plug into an external hard drive.

I have heard bad things about Dell and HP so what brand should I get?

Dell 4
Toshiba 9
Acer 4
HP 8

My Toshiba is going on about 5 years strong now. I think that's probably pretty good for a laptop.

I don't know if people are acting like PC experts or are they completely retarded.

Toshiba 9 votes ? Where do you live people under a rock ? Unless you want a notebook that is for one use only do not buy Toshiba. Hp has lots of problems too, at least around my are since I repair them A LOT !

Lenovo and Acer is a reasonable laptop and external HDD is plugged into a USB port which every single machine in the world has.

It's funny you say Lenovo because I have a friend who fixes computers and I asked him about Lenovo's (because I read they have the longest battery life and he told me they are not reliable.

I have a Sony Vaio with 8gb RAM and an SSD HD and it's fucking awesome. Windows 7 64-bit also.

i agree with scooternyne on this one. Acers and toshibas are both good computers for the money.

My toshiba is going on 2 years and still works great, even after dropping it a few times (twice while open).

i did have it crash on me once, about 4 months after i got it, but the toshiba guys told me my model had a problem in the software. i bought an upgraded system restore disk and its been working perfectly since.

also, make sure you get a case with good padding, cause the screens are rather thin and can get distorted easily if a textbook or something heavy pushes against the back of the screen.

i dont know much about acers, except that my friends is 4 years old and still works.

Toshiba or Asus is your best bet for a laptop. Though I ditched my laptop for a desktop recently. Much cheaper and as new tech comes out I can upgrade easily without buying a whole new system. But if you have to go with a laptop or just prefer to, Toshiba and Asus.

Toshiba seems the go. My mom told me her Toshiba is 6 years old and she has never had a problem with it.
